In the US of course the car does not come with a spare tire. I'm wondering about other places in the world.

I retrofitted my car with a spare (moved the amplifier) but is there a more elegant way to do this.

Wow, when I saw the thread title I was curious to know where a spare would go, but it looks like you've solved that problem. Where did you get the spare?

Your solution looks pretty good to me!

Yes. Goes in back seat where certain nations require spares. (forgot which ones).

Not kidding.

How is that spare secured in the rear seat?

So why can we in the US not just purchase that entire kit that goes in the back seat from our parts counter?

Maybe mglobe can answer (I just bought his car) but my 997 has a spare like the OP shows that is hanging out in the frunk but I don't know if it would fit at the bottom like in the picture above. I believe it may technically be a 996 kit but works for 997.

Shortly after the introduction of the 997 many owners expressed similar reservations about going out into the world without a spare tire. Real world experienced have shown since that time that it is a minor annoyance, compared to the logistical dilemma of dealing with (1) the takeoff and (2) the spare the spare consumes within the trunk or anywhere else you chose to store it.

I developed my own travel kit to handle most scenarios where you would use a spare (e.g., a nail in the tire).

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...-tire-kit.html

Many have built upon that kit for their own comfort level.

I have noticed that the latest Porsche, the Panamera, ships without a spare of any size, too.

One guy posted on here (or maybe 6speed) - he was from Guatemala and his 997.2 had a factory spare in the frunk complete with a securing bolt through the center - it sat upright against the back side of the frunk. So there are cars made that way - too bad it is not an option for US.

Not available here either, maybe the reason the 991 is wider and longer

Honestly, WHO CARES!

I got a flat tire TRACKING in Portland Raceway, in midst of a MAJOR STORM, and managed to use the supplied flat tire kit to seal the rear tire, drive around for another day before heading back (300 miles), and didn't fix it for another week. NO issues, not even lost one PSI during that time.

I rather go through the RARE trouble of fixing a flat than carrying the extra weight of a spare!

What if you get more than one flat?

What if the tire is a blow out? I think Saudi Arabia is one country that requires it since being stuck out in the desert can be lethal.

Getting Centerlock wheels makes the prospect of a spare even more unlikely. Sure hope the goop in a can and plug works well enough...
