I am now P'carless and looking for a new ride. I am interested in 2007 and 2008 C2 or C2S. I have found the prices to be in the mid to upper 60's. I am now also seeing 2002-2004 Turbos for around the same prices. I like the 997 exterior styling and interior quality better than the 996, but the thought of driving a Turbo may make those 997 qualities not as important. What do people think about the two options?

I debated the same but ultimately bought a 997S. I don't care about 'big' power, even though the S isn't slow. I just prefer the 997 overall design exterior and interior.

Thanks for the heads up on the discussion threads. I agree with you that the 997 overall design is better. I think I will probably go with the 997.

Great I read some of those posts and I have decided to go with the 997. Now the debate is C2 or C2S? There is about a $10K difference in price. I am going to do autocross and DE but only to learn the car and its driving characteristics. Otherwise I am using it as a DD and for nice trips through the White Mountains of NH in the Fall. I am leaning towards the C2 just on price. What are your thoughts this issue. I am sure this topic has been discussed to death too. Thanks for all your help. this forum rocks

Since you may be considering a 996TT (like I did) the C2S will be more similar in performance.

If I were in your shoes, the choice would be 993TT vs. late model 997S.

I don't think I could remain happy with any 996, except maybe the 996 GT3RS. The 997 and 993 are both models that I could remain in love with, without lusting for something new or different in a few years or sooner. Not so with the 996, even a TT. As I like to keep my cars for a long time, I went with the 997, as the 993 is already 16-12 years old.

I agree with you. I don't like the styling of the 996 and I am sure I would be looking again in a few years for another car. I would like to find a car that I will enjoy for the next 7 years or so. I think I will continue looking for a good deal on a 997C2. Thanks for your input

The styling of the 996 is the worst in the history of 911 design. However, why not just spring the 10k and put a 997 GT3 front kit on the 996 turbo? Best of both worlds. Good mechanical performance without the ugly.

I agree with your thoughts about the better exterior design and interior of a 997. That is why I pulled the trigger on a 997. I don't need the extra power that will just mean more speeding tickets. I love the styling of the 997 and the feel of the car. At this point the extra power will not add to my enjoyment of the car. Now that may change but I am happy for now.

As the 996 Turbo gets older it will become more expensive to maintain. The 997s are younger and would be in better shape, all other things being equal. Also, the 996 series is a series behind. By late 2011, it will be TWO series behind. You can do the math.

Indeed, if you can fund the 997, then its a no brainer, buy a brand new one. if not, then converting the 996 turbo with a 997 GT3 kit is a cheap way to rid the 996 of its ugly.

You've made a great decision, you'd be very happy with 997, everytime you get in the car it puts a smile on your face!
