Default 997 S or 996 TT

I am new to this 997 forum as i presently have a 2001 c2 which iam selling for either of the cars mentioned.

I know both the cars and have driven them both but not back to back so i cant remember !

I drove a C4S 997 against my car 2001 C2 and on a straight line till 180 km there is not much of a difference in car lengths but i felt the c4s was much more stable and the handling was incredible. On performance alone i wasnt to impressed compared to the older C2.

The turbo i drove was modified and was incredibily too fast for me , i need to know stock driving conditions.

Since most of you here have a 997 and probably were faced with this same question, and some of you are old 996 tt owners so..

1) I drive less tha 3k miles a year , not a daily driver at all.
2) Is the C4S a better all around finished product compared to TT 996, I have a C2 so i know the basic differences. Engine is the major thing.
3) how much faster is the turbo ? and is it worth the move.

Thank You

Try the search function as many people have asked the same question before and you might find all of the information you are looking for there. In general, opinions have favored 997S over 996TT.

I don't see the point at all. If you drive less than 3,000 miles a year. That's like what, 10 miles a day? Save your money.

I had an 01 996 C4 and have graduated to a few versions of the 997. I think the 997 is a much better car all around and my guess is if you get one you will drive it more than 3k miles a year!!

A 997S can very easily be a daily driver. There are many of us around here who use it that way but a lot of depends on where you live/the weather.

New 997S, especially with PDK, is faster than 996TT stock and it doesn't have the 996 interior which isn't as nice as the 997.

FWIW, I owned a 996 TT and now own an X51 997S (PCA Club Coupe), and overall I much prefer the Club Coupe--it is about the same as the Turbo was in terms of 0-60 acceleration because it launches better/faster since it doesn't have turbo lag; the Turbo would be at a faster terminal acceleration rate, though. And the 997S has a much lighter handling feel, which I like. Finally, it sounds glorious under acceleration, which Turbos never do.

And interior-wise and styling, I don't think you can do better than a 997S. I would skip the AWD--if you're not daily driving it, especially I wouldn't want it (as the steering is heavier than the rear drive 997S).

The only downside, is the 996 Turbo has the true dry sump motor that is pretty darn reliable--997 S you always have the possibility of rear main seal and (depending on year) intermediate shaft and seal failures to think about. I'd still go 997S though, given you didn't like the modded 996TT. That is a plus to the 996TT--if you want to you, can mod it and produce amazing levels of performance.

i agree with all the comments about the 997 interior being better than the 996.

seems kind of lame for car guys who care most about driving dynamics to worry about that. and my 997S with the aero has wonderful chassis dynamics, and is more confidence inspiring.

but as a former cayman owner i just couldn't go back to the 996 interior despite looking at several lovely cars. go 997. you won't regret...
