Default Usage of daytime xenons or DRL?

How many here use their daytime running lights? I have decided not to on my 2009 C2S.
I think that they attract more attention--including cops...

For example, when I'm on the highway, I myself typically first notice 1)cars with xenons then 2)DRL, espec cool ones like audi or porsche, then 3) any lights, then 4)all others. I suspect it's human nature for cops to do the same. Although I understand the safety benefit,I don't want the added attention, and I don't even turn on my xenons until I absolutely have to.

I think this saved my butt many times on the dreaded Ohio Turnpike when I was speeding among busy traffic (and cops everywhere), but my car wasn't picked up.

I've had the DRL activated on my 06 Club Coupe (through the Sports Chrono settings option) since day one, precisely because I want to be seen. I'm less worried about speeding tickets and more worried some dufus will pull out in front of me, and ruin my day.

hockeyguy - I agree with you too but maybe it's me but I cannot turn off the DRL. Am I missing something?

Colored HID's draw cops like magnet at night. People must not know any better? They can nail you from a long distance on the expressway/interstate and never mistake you for any other car. It's a waste to even consider a protest of the ticket. I suspect they do help prevent people pulling out in front of you in the day time?

AC911...it's a setting that you can change. I had the same question you did. I have a 2006 and when I was at the dealer one time, the mechanic noticed a certain part of the menu wasn't active for some reason so he fixed it. That setting also allows you to fiddle with the timeout for the lights after locking etc...
If you have trouble finding it when I am home I'll take a look and let you know how to find it.

Hi Tony - thanks but I think changing the setting is a functionality you have in the S. In my non-S, I am not sure I can... But yes - if you can take a look and let me know that would be great. Thanks!

I believe that the functionality for changing lighting spec, which Tony mentioned, is available if you have Sport Chrono. It is not based upon having an S versus a non-S car.

If its Sport Chrono related, and you don't have that option, then the dealer can change the setting. All Sport Chrono gives you is the ability for the owner to change the setting option via the on board computer vs having to do it via the dealer PIWIS plugged in way.

I keep my 2009 2S's LED running lights on as I do believe that they help my silver car stand out. A Porsche is not as invisible as a motorcycle, but they are very small cars in contrast to a SUV and silver blends into the grey roads.

However, I can remembering driving over CA Highway 17 when I just picked this car up, and watching a CHPs head snap in my direction. It had to be the new LED lights, unless he really knew Porsches.

Given the safety factor, I keep the LED running lights on- along with a good radar detector.

I leave them on. There are so many idiot drivers around here, those LEDs might give me a tiny bit more visibility. I leave my DRLs on with my GTI as well.

I do have sport-chrono but are you guys talking about changing settings in the HU? I think what's going on here is the previous owner had an aftermarket HU installed so I cannot see/change what the current settings are...

I hate DRLs. On my M cars I had them disabled.

To enable/disable DRL (with sports chrono and I have a 997.1):

PCM->Main->Setting->Individual settings -> set daytime running lights.

I tried the DRLs on my 07 but didn't like having the headlights on all the time, I would prefer if they were the fog lights. I sometimes drive around w my fog lights on for visibility. I wish there was a way to have them come on all the time instead of having to turn them on and off. Does anyone else use their fogs for DRLs?
