Default 997 oil leak...

Tonight i noticed an oil drip coming from near the front of the oil pan looking forward from the back of the car. I did a search on here and found a lot of RMS postings, is this what i might be facing?

FWIW, Here's the area to check out for a 997.1 RMS leak. Good luck!

Sorry Buddy. Oh well, they'll fix it and in a few weeks you'll forget all about it.

Here's a close up:

sometimes that happens because the car isn't driven enough.

RMS replacement is no biggie especially if it will be covered under warranty.

If I remember correctly from my RMS experience, the dealer just needed to half-lower the engine and the job was about half-day to one-day. Many dealers would also provide a loaner car.

No sweat, just call your dealer, and they will take good care of it.

Regards,

Not a big deal, it is is the seal, they easily drop the transmission to get to the seal. The engine is not lowered. If it is the RMS, I would recommend you ask to inspect the RMS area after they remove the seal, to ensure they do not damage the engine block when removing the old seal that sometimes settles in there.

Someone had posted this link which has great illustrations on the process and pieces; http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/996rms/rms4.php not that you would do the repair yourself but helps to understand what is involved.

Hope this calms some of your fears.

Thanks everyone, i will take the car in this friday to have inspected. Does anybody know if the new seal is better? Or has it been re-enforced or made better since there seems to be issues with the original one?

Everything points to the newer seal being substantially better.

I could be wrong, but I believed that the new seal went on all 2006-2009 997's. I could be wrong...

Mine (06) was done just under the warranty expiration and 20K miles. No big deal. 2 Days.
