Default Gap model between 997.1 and 997.2????`

Hi people, I need help in a settlement once in for all:

A buddy of mine tracks a 997."1"4S, which he is SURE carries 385hp like the 997.2 models stock. His rationale was that the dealer told him it was a in between model so he gets the extra horses, but his engine is not DFI!! My understanding from a BASIC viewpoint was that if you have a 997 and dont have rear led lights, no DFI, no adaptive braking, no PDK etc, etc, then you could not possibly have the same power output on a 997.14S as a 997.2S. We track often and when I beat him sometimes he gets upset, as he's also quite a fine driver. But when I bring up the hp dissavantages he has he goes nuts, reciting what the dealer told him blah blah blah.

Is there a VAT number check that could tell u the output of the engine? Perhaps this will shut him up for good, as I really never heard of a gap model to fit in between the current and emerging model.

Cheers,

Henry

Take a look at the center air duct on his car. If there is a third or center radiator, then his car may have the X51 package to which he may be referring. In the 997.1 cars you could order the X561 package which boosted the 997S output from 355 hp to 381 hp--nearly the same as the 385 of the 997.2 S cars. It was a very expensive package at the time and not ordered that much for the gain. It's not a "gap" model at all. (Also, on the X51 engines is a fancier air filter assembly, made of carbon fiber looking material).

Soundls like your buddy is easily fooled. I highly doubt a company like Porsche would allow for a "transition" model. Dont have an answer to what you are lloking, though.

Have your friend check is Option Code sticker. It is probably located on the inside front cover of the Owner's Manual or the Maintenance Manual. If he does not have a option X51 listed on the sticker, then his car had 355 HP. If he does have the X51 option, then as Dan said above, ^ he has 381 HP.

Either way, your car has more HP than his car does. Now all you need to determine is exactly how much more do you have....... 30 HP or 4 HP?

P.S. I hope you have 30 more HP, just to shut him up!

There are two possibilties:
1. As Edgy described
or
2. your friend got jobbed.

I was always leaning with the latter, but didn't have the heart to tell him without concrete numbers. He's quite the shrewd businessman so him essentially getting conned by a car salesman would do some damage

Assuming he doesn't have the X51 package, be sure to tell us what he does to the dealer when he finds out he was mis-informed.

Nothing years of therapy won't cure.

Basically dealer lied!

Unless the car has X51 package as Edgy said, and even so, it's still not an in-between model, just a power package to boost HP to 381.

regardless of X51 or no, that dealer comment, if true, is priceless.

Thats funny - X51 on a 997.1 would take it to 381HP. Otherwise its 355HP. No in between model exists.

A 17,000 dollar option if I recall. That's a very expensive option for 26 HP.
