I make excuses of errands just to drive the 997, and then sometimes in the garage I have to literally toss a coin.

highly scientific method you have there.

Well as a 993 owner (I have only had it one year now) I must say I am rather curious as to what driving a 997 is like. I like my 993 C2 but I sure wish it had more torque and more top end speed (over kill for the public roads but a must for the track).

Nothing scientific here. Purely empiric and obviously subjective. That's the nature of liking or disliking AFAIC.

I could say the same thing about my old Mazda MX-5 Miata. And I don't mean this to take anything away from the 993. Some cars are just so fun to drive that power (or prestige) isn't important. But for some people, there's always a lust for more power. Different strokes for different folks.

OT: Just wondering how many out there have driven an NSX? I love Porsches and have always found that at times they feel amazing, but you have to search for it a little. The NSX is always in that zone.

Just to add to what seems to be a general opinion here:
My 964 C4 Cab was awesome in many ways, but one - the reliability. There were days when I loved it, then, when something else would break (almost weekly), I would hate it with a passion. I pumped endless $$$$$ into it over 3 years, and when the engine gave in I said enough and sold it.
I miss it a lot. The smaller cockpit was perfect. It was light and fun. There was something else though. Somehow, it felt more like a Porsche than my 997.2
But on the track it a whole 'nother story

I've owned a 79 SC and a 95 993. The SC is hands down the most raw car I've ever driven...reminded me of driving a motorcycle...it was that responsive - albeit under powered. The 993 was a beautiful car with a great ride, but still underpowered. I've driven a 997 S, and I have to say, it drove like a 993 with good power to match. I kind of feel its a perfect blend of old and new.

+1 Same experience here with my 964 C2. However, there is nothing I preferred about my 964 compared with my 997. Although, its been a while

I ve never driven a 964 but people say the 993 is a very different animal.
I almost agree on 997s, although I think they could be smaller. And the next 911 will be bigger still going down that sloppy GT road...
I guess the current GT3 / RS will be as raw an experience as a 993 was...I would really like to drive one.

I would also like to hear from someone that HAD an 993 and HAS a current GT3. Comparisons? (Power apart)

Same thing as when 993s were new; comparing to the longhoods were were still trying to develop in an effort to keep up with these near 300HP plush luxury cruisers that had most all of the classic 911 demons exorcised.

I think the nostalgia around 993s now is that they're in the wheelhouse of most guys buying power, and a little nudge toward "sporty" in the suspension department goes a long way. Power? How did I ever make due with ~160HP in a 2.0S? Guess it was just being a somewhat clueless 18 year old! I'm ready to put a stock 3.6L back in the yellow car for reliability. The 1-2 sec/lap the 3.8L gives is pretty meaningless, all things considered.

I started with the 993 TT Great car but it was dated. The outline
of the car may be the best of all the 911s. But it creaked and the chassis
was very loose. The whole car bent when I went up my driveway
The 996 GT3 was better, and the 997 GT3 even better still,
But this 997.2 C2S PDK is just phenomenal. This is the 1st 911 that is
my DD. Its so easy to drive well, it begs to go out every day.

I want an older 911 as something to tinker on it, but not yet.

And what, exactly, do YOU know about 911s? Looks like you're a stuffed animal collector these days!
