Drove a 993 today! Wow..
I know this is a 997 forum, and i am a 997 owner myself but...
Today i drove for the first time a 993, Carrera 4, immaculate condition
30,000 miles as new...
The car drove fantastically and you know what?
It was sooo much fun to drive...! Why have modern cars lost that feeling?
I mean my 997 PDK is a great car with super technology and all but it does NOT give you a smile at 30 mph as the old 993 does!
And my god the quality of the thing! As if its made to last forever..
15 years old car and not a single rattle...
I am hooked and on the search!

Congrats on your decision to add a 993 to your stable. Not only are they the last of the air-cooled p-cars, they also have a more visceral driving feel that is reminiscent of the early 911's.
I love my 997 C2S, but for very different reasons
Here' s a pic of my 993 in action:

The newer the cars get the faster they are, yet feel "slower" than the older ones. My 964 felt like I was going 150 when I was only at 100 (on the track of course). On the other hand, my 997.2 C2S at 150 feels like I'm going 100. Nothing like the sensation of an older Porsche - sound, feel, etc.

thats strange - in my 996 I made sure to redline everyday at least once after propper warm up period and I also made it a habit to hit 100 everyday, even if just for a second.....
the old 911 I have had about t month and dont hit redline everyday (yet ) and I dont hit 100 everyday... I drive it normal... but for some reason everytime I wonder why everyone is driving so slow - I look and I am well over 90 and dont even know it.... and all i want to do it puch the pedal down more !!!
Love the drive, again very differant - someone said the onew cars are quick, but the old cars are fast... I have to agree on some levels
I think everyone should try out an older one for the experience. I was planning on getting a newer car after this one, but now I am wondering if i might want an evern older one for the next one I heard the feeling is even more raw when you hit early 70's to late 60's

yes it was, 2002 was the first year the 996 was reasonable but even with that I would take a 93 RSA over the 996 other than the GT3. The 996GT3 and 997GT3 are worlds apart from the others

I very much miss my C4S. Sold it with 125k miles and it was faster, looked and handled better than the day I bought 7 years prior with 30k on it.
Thankfully, it was sold to a R-Lister who appreciated it and continues to maintain it in a similiar manner.

Spend some time in the 993 forum and learn as much as you can. There's lot's to learn about the 993's so don't jump in too fast...I almost bought a 97 C2S but decided the 997 was the better daily driver.
The 993 is the sexier and more visceral of the two.

More visceral, yes. Sexier, not IMHO.
Now I've always loved the look of the 993 and lusted after them since their debut. But just based on pure looks, to me the 997 is sexier. The 993 has more character and classic 911 good looks. The 997 is like a modern day super model; slender, sleek and curves where you want them. The 993 is like an aging actress who maybe looking a bit hefty now, but still looks good for her age regardless.
