8:46 --- 140.99 km/h - Porsche 993 Carrera S
And these are for 100% stock cars, in their day? I'm sure, even discounting discrepancies in weather, a 2009 tire on an otherwise stock 1998 car would get you nearly 10 seconds of time in that 993S.

But the thing to understand is that most every one of the older cars has been screwed around with by this point in time. So that 8:46 with 2010 thought on how to set the thing up probably becomes an 8:25 car. What you're getting for your bucks is that the new car, off the shelf, is both faster than our old POS cars AND can function even better as a plush won't-spill-the-coffee commuter.

And not that a 911 owner could care less about 0-60 times but:
2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S 0-60 mph 3.8 Quarter mile 12.4
1997 Porsche 911 Turbo 0-60 mph 3.6 Quarter mile 12.1
http://www.zeroto60times.com/Porsche...mph-Times.html

As I said before, I have owned the cars in question and I'm not at all biased or saying which one is better (subjective), just which one is faster (objective). My ideal garage has a 993 and a longhood along with a modern Carrera.
Don't take it personally, the 993 crowd drinks plenty of koolaid.

Well we all love our cars and I can understand (if not agree) why some people get defensive about their choices. "Better" is objective and there is no correct answer which is why this stuff will be argued until the end of time.

What amuses me is remembering when the 993 came out and everyone using the exact same arguments.

Damn 993 is a piece of crap, drives like a Cadillac!!! No real 911 has power steering! Way too soft, fat and heavy to be a sports car. etc.

Interesting how much we disagree. I thought the ISF was a decent enough copy of a C63 mercedes, but the interior was uninspiring.

The 8:46 time is about 14 seconds slower than the wikipedia time I got for the 993s. Lot of variability there for sure.

As for the 0-60, you can certainly see which one is faster ,and it ain't the 997

Either way, both cars have their strong points, and I don't deny that the 997s is a good performer.

Nowhere close to the Cayman S koolaid dispensed in the Cayman Club site.

Anyone can edit wikipedia, it's not the most trusted source. In 0-60 apples to apples (i.e. 997 Turbo vs. 993 Turbo), tell me who's faster - yup the 997.

993 fanboys do indeed have a great 911 - no doubt. But a bit too much koolaid as well.

Question for PeterS: are you comparing a 993 to a 997S (with an aerokit) or a 997 GT3?

My solution is I want both. Badly. I have still not heard a water-cooled 911 that sounds and smells like a 993. That said, the 997S is the bomb.

Chuck W. that is a seriously awesome car! If I had that car in my garage I would tear down the wall between garage and living room and make it glass..then I would invest in some serious garage lighting )))

Seriously now: Wouldn't it be great if we could have a garage with 4-5 different 911s? Wake up, take your pick kind of thing.. (although some of the guys here actually have that!)

I would probably want

- 993 C4S manual
- 997 C2S PDK
- 997 Turbo PDK
- 997 GT3 / RS manual by default
- 964 Turbo manual

The comment you are about to read is a JOKE. Please take it as such:

So, if the 993 folks are drinking koolaide... does that mean the 997 fols are drinking watered down koolaide?

I crack myself up

As I said previously (think I posted as FD Motorsports) I love the 997 and will have one eventually. Actually, some of my best friends are 997s...

+1

As a 993 guy who slams the kool-aid right out of the pitcher, I would only be too happy to imbibe from the 997.2 PDK fountain as well. Stunning looks; stunning technology.
