My car has been pretty noisy since I bought it. Being my 3rd 911 I know they aren't Lexus but it seemed excessive. I used a handy decibel meter and the interior averaged 105db! According to C&D I'm way over full throttle measurements.

My Michelins look like they have a great deal of life left. It's most noticeable at cruising highway speeds. It doesn't sound mechanical unless it's bearings.

Any ideas? Anyone else have the same experience?

Some roads are very noisy, do you get this on all roads?
Did you ck tire pressures?
Year, mileage, model 997?

Concrete roads are the worst - pretty loud. I notice on asphalt it is better.

Yeah the car is just very loud on bumpy roads. I figure it's the car's way of asking me to avoid bumps as much as possible People must think I'm drunk or very erratic the way I'll swerve to avoid bumps. Some roads are like washboards that set up a vibration that just make the whole car groan.

If you have a specific rattling trim piece that can be easily fixed.

I have also seen 2 or 3 reports of broken welds behind the dash.

My car is an 06 S with PSE and the EVO intake but it's sound like road hum. Yes it's better on asphalt but in Texas concrete is king.

It's distractingly loud. It's difficult to hear someone on the phone.

Yep same hear...big tires, stiff suspension allows the sound to travel into the cabin.

My Mini-Cooper is even LOUDER inside and it is completly stock!

Sorry. The roads are the biggest contributor to noise inside the cockpit. As tires age they contribute more noise. Turn up the stereo.

The noise is all part of the Porsche 911 experience.
It took years for Stuttgart engineers to get it just perfect.

If you really don't like it, softer tires do make a big difference. I think the PS2's are particularly loud. 18" wheels with soft rubber would be much quieter.

I'm happy just to put my right foot down and drown it out with engine noise

I have the same concern. Living in the Portland area, our roads are pretty miserable. I measured the same 105db in my 3000mile 2009 911. It is NOT a pleasant noise whatsoever. Please don't misunderstand me, i like loud cars, but the idea of going on a road-trip in a car that is this obnoxiously loud is not an enticing one. engine noise is one thing, road noise is another altogether. This is my fourth Porsche, (an '83 sc, 2000 boxster, and 2007 Cayman S) and makes the previous three sound like tombs in comparison. It is literally loud enough that holding a conversation with a passenger is not possible.

Its a pretty big flaw, in an otherwise excellent car.

I'm the biggest trumpeter of "Go Porsche or Go Home" but my air cooled 993s were more tolerable cabins. I'm not going to through out the baby with the bath water but it would be nice not have to shout over the noise when I'm with the family in the car.

I am going to try different tires on my next round.

993's also had smaller tires.

Have you had a chance to check your wheel bearings? It happened on my last 986S. It is not that uncommon for the wheel bearings go noisy even the car is just a few years young.

I have have owned several 911s over the years. This 2009 997 C2S is louder than my previous 964 cab and 993 cab. I had a 997 Club Coupe but is was quieter than this one. I have been thinking of selling the 19" wheels and putting on 18s to see if this would help.

I agree with the Porsche experience, heck, I have owned several factory race cars. I am enjoying the car but disappointed with the road noise. It is like riding in an older cab.
