Default Headlight removal

I understand that removal of the headlights (997.2) is very simple. How would I go about doing this?

The procedures shold be listed in your Manual, probably under the "light" section or "replacing bulbs" section.

There should be an "L" shaped tool in the tool pouch located in the trunk (OK, in the boot, since you are in the UK ). You pull back the carpet in the boot and insert the tool and rotate it 90 degrees (I forget which way). This will unlock the headlight assembly, You can pull the headlight out from the front.

You'll know it's the right hole when you hear a loud pop as you rotate the L-shaped tool.

As an alternative, go to south Florida, park in front of a grocery store one evening, get out, walk off 30 yds and then watch. These things are being stolen in significant numbers. They can give you some tips.

Seriously, go through the instruction manual. I suggest that you line the front of the paint with protective tape so that when you a fudging around with it to put it back you don't screw up the paint.

Thank you for this advice, gentlemen.

(Of course I ought to have 'RTFM' but I thought this would not feature.)

Dan,

Interesting that you brought up the stolen headlights in Florida.

A friend of mine is a lawyer in Miami and has had the headlights stolen
out of his 911 three (3) separate times. It is apparently a big issue
down there.

There was a class action lawsuit which was filed against Porsche claiming
a manufacturing design flaw for the headlights. My friend was involved in the
lawsuit, and a settlement was agreed upon between the PL group and Porsche.
He no longer drives Porsches because of the lawsuit, however, his
law partner has and always will have a 911.

Hopefully, that was part of the settlement.
We will give you go-away-money for your frivolous lawsuit, but NO PORSCHE FOR YOU ! NEXT !

Brings to mind another settlement for a photographer that shot a wedding, arrived high as a kite, and got "creative".
His shots consisted of various unflattering pics of the guests and not a single appropriate picture.
The wedding couple, lawyers both, sued his broke ***.
The settlement involved his agreeing to never again to take a photograph for money.

That lawsuit just increased the cost of our cars. Crazy world!

This sounds like the headlight issue with early 2000s Nissan Maximas all over again where you could pop them out easily with a flat bar. So now in addition to people being total jerks on the road, I need to worry about my headlights being jacked, ugh.

Is this still an issue on 997.2 cars? To remove the headlights in my car takes some doing with the tool. I imagine that just pulling the headlights with a suction cup will not cut it, but I may be wrong.

I don't think Porsche changed the design. It's amazingly simple to do--the real way, from inside the trunk.

I have no idea how they can steal them without trashing the car. But they apparently do.

Indeed. I had the occasion to pull mine out and saw how secure they are locked. I imagine that forced extraction implies forcing a shaft to snap rotate the locking lever. Ouch!
