Since i'm asking silly questions (see Smelly 997? Post),
Anyone here have any issues with the mileage of their 997? My base model drinks fuel like it's going out of style. (2006MY)
In fairness, it's not like i'm shifting at 2500 RPM but I don't redline it each and every day. On the highway it's great, but any normal commuting and I'm filling it every 180-240 miles. Is this normal?
P.S. Anybody I complain to regarding the mileage just laughs at me and makes some comment about the car...

What ruins milage is if you have a lot of short trips.

I don't even bother thinking about it anymore; money's not the problem. If you compare premium gas price to regular gas, our cost-per-mile is absurd compared to other fuel efficient cars. ![ooops](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/icon501.gif)
OTOH, a gallon of premium gas, screws up the atmosphere just as much as gallon of regular, right?

If you're running your tank down to a gallon or two that means you're getting between 12-16mpg right? 16 seems in the ballpark but 12 seems pretty low unless you're doing a lot of creeping stop and go in your commute.

And no need to worry about atmosphere - it was billions of years before us and will be here after all of us will be long gone.

Do not run your tank below 1/4, especially w/ E10.
I think we all agree that however good fuel mileage these cars have, it is not the reason we drive them.

In the city, I tend to get ~ 300 KM on 50 ish liters of gas. Its terrible.. but when i use it for commuting in stop and go traffic, its not very efficient. And this is with very reasonable driving.
On the highway, my average mileage is 9.5 L / 100.

Money is not an issue - gas tank size is. IMHO it could have been made quite bigger. It is pretty annoying to be forced to stop at gas station so often.

Too small for what? My S has a 16.9 gallon capacity. Not too shabby in my book. I can drive non-stop between the Bay Area and LA. What else is needed? ![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
A larger gas tank adds weight, which is anathema for sports cars drivers, and would reduce available trunk size. Nothing is free.
