Daily commute is 125 miles, 110 of which is freeway. I drive the 997.2 every third week and split the commute between two other vehicles. The commute mileage is typically 27-28 mpg. City driving runs 18-20 mpg during the two weeks the wife uses the car (she wants to have fun too!). The trip computer has 2653 miles since the last reset at an average of 26.3 mpg

I'm getting about 13 with city driving and 21 if all freeway driving. I was complaining about the 13 with the Porsche service manager, and he summed it up nicely: "Hey, if you wanted good mileage, you should have bought a Prius."

In my 2009 3.6 DFI engine, on a tank I'm getting around 22 mpg with my 6spd if I drive efficiently. This means keeping the RPMs under 2000 unless I need it for specific overtaking/merging/uphill, etc. If I drive letting the RMPs stay in the 2000-3000 range, my efficiency drops to around 19.1 mpg over a tank.

In either case I'm getting 300+ miles to the tank. I suspect fuel tanks are sized so that a vehicle can get around 350 miles on a tank, which must be somehow related to a statistic of the spacing between gas stations. (my guess). I base this on the fact my VW Golf also ran about 320-360 miles on a tank.. the tank was smaller.

Now if you drive like most folks, I can imagine mileage being pretty crappy: ie sprinting from red light to red light with lots of acceleration and braking needed.

Hehe. Next to the MPG estimates Porsche should have an asterisk explaining "estimated MPG is optional."
