Default New Car Engine Smell

I know that when shutting off the engine of a new car durring the break in period there is that "burning" smell that comes from the engine. My new 09 CS2 still has that smell after 1500 miles. Is this normal? And, if so, how long will this continue?

Yes. 1500 is not very many miles at all.

Mine 2000 Boxster S with 26,000 miles has that same smell. It's smell a little like oil, but it doesn't leak or burn any that I know of.

Yes it's a "feature" I thought i was frying the clutch until a better informed owner passed on his knowledge.

Lots of hot exhaust components stuffed close to the engine back there with all that rubber and oil. It's gotta smell. Plus tar from road gets kicked up, sticks and outgasses. It never goes away. You can park outside, open compartment lid, let cool then push into your garage. IOW, don't start it just to drive it cold for 15 feet.

If the smell is supposed to be there, then it smell good! If it's not, then I don't care for it

Mine as well, with 10.5K miles. And I just thought it was because I was a crappy driver.

Good to know! First time Porsche owner and I was wondering the same, first few times I also thought it was the clutch but then I would pay more attention and after a spirited drive but taking care not to slip the clutch and still was getting the 'smell'. My car has 26k miles and doesn't burn any oil at all. Had it for 3 1/2 months and < than 3k miles.
