Default Anyone Taking Thier 997 On A Long Thanksgiving Trip?

Now that Thanksgiving is two days away, I am sure everyone's
travel plans have been made.

I will be taking a road trip of about 500 miles round trip
through the winding hills and valleys of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.

I was originally going to take my truck, however, I thought
this would be a perfect time to take the 997 for a fun drive.
(As long as the girlfriend can keep the luggage down to a minimum ).

Anyone else planning a nice long trip in their P-Car this Thanksgiving?

i love 12 hour trips in the 997, makes them "seem" like 10...

to get my 997.2 i drove 1000 miles in my 997.1 up and it went by like nothing, on the way back the 1000 miles back in 997.2 were even better, it rained the entire time and the 997.2 front end just feels more "tame" to me in the wet.

We're going about 175 miles away. Thought about taking the Porsche but decided against it. Wifey's Mercedes is more comfortable sitting and riding, quieter, bigger trunk, gets better gas mileage, cheaper and longer-wearing tires, has 6-CD changer, Tele-Aid aka Onstar, not afraid of stone chips, and it isn't a cop magnet. At least that's how I explained it to my wife. I left out the part about how if I get tired or don't feel well I won't have a problem letting her drive the Merc

lol.. i actually find my 997 more comfortable, i feel more awake driving it because i enjoy the driving versus loathe, i get better mileage, and i have a DVD in the PCM so i have like 100+ CD's on command.. also for some reason i find the 997 is the opposite of a cop magnet as everytime i get pulled over i get a few questions/compliments and then sent on my way... never a ticket so far, but good approach so the wife cant drive the 997.

300 miles round trip. San Francisco to Big Sur and back, all along Hwy 1. Looking forward to the drive as much as the trip.

Unfortunately no, flying economy to Negril, Jamaica for Thanksgiving. I love it there though, so should be nice.

I am doing a 10 hour drive down to Palm Beach for Christmas, but my Mom insists I drive down in the Shelby GT500. Says Porsches are a dime a dozen down there and she prefers the Shelby. This is coming from a woman who lived with her husband for 20 years in Greenwhich, Connecticut and was lucky enough to own her own Porsche 930 and Ferrari Mondial in the 80's while dad had the Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer in the barn. She still thinks the Shelby is cooler

I love both.

Totally agree - i feel sleepy in the cruise boats, never do in the 997 as it is fun. Dont need a 6 CD changer as I have UAI and 3000 songs on my ipod. Keep the suspension in normal and its "soft" enough. Plus you can take gaps when you need to - Porsche is "dartier".

Last week I drove 2400 miles over 7 days from Santa Fe to Sanibel Island via the Porsche Palooza in Eureka Springs, AR.

What a blast!

My wife and I drove from the San Antonio TX area to Raleigh NC to be with our kids and Grandkids for the holiday. 1300 plus miles and averaged just over 31 mpg in the C2S. Bags and golf clubs no issue. We will head back this weekend. The DFI engine and PDK are sweet. In 10 months I have put close to 11,000 miles on it and enjoyed every mile (even scraping the paint slightly under the front on our son's driveway last night).... a little silver paint and no one will know. The generation 2 997s are very close to fantastic. The adaptive sport seats with the heated function are comfortable for long distances even with my bad back. 600 miles plus each day no problem.

Jack, that ^ is ironic because I have been working in Greenville, SC and flew back to Dallas on Monday. Later today we will drive to San Antonio to spend Thanksgiving with my family. I have 6 sisters and a brother that live in SA.

The only bummer part of the trip is the fact that it will be made, not in a Porsche, but in my POS Honda Accord!

Have a great Thanksgiving and a safe trip back.
