Need advice of clear film paint protection
I just bought a 2009 911 - it is the dark blue metallic color.
With regard to the clear plastic films out there, any reccomendations with respect to:
- areas of the car to get covered?
- best product, 3M etc?
- on a darker car are the demarcation lines going to be very evident?

Did full front (bumper, lights, full hood), behind front wheel-well, under doors and in front and behind rear.
Used 3M at Detailing Dynamics - worked with Eddie and Matt
Yes on darker cars the demarcations lines show up more.
Feel very good about it so far.

lots of comments on this. i'm a big fan but my only real issue is that if you do any of the hood, do the whole thing. that line across the middle gathers a lot of gunk and is very noticeable.

Couldn't a new line be cut 1/8 or 1/4 inch up, thus cleaning up the whole edge?

P21S Total Auto Wash seems to work very well at removing grime that accumulates across the edges of protective film. Just spray the edges, give it a few minutes to work, and wash it away. I've been impressed by the results.

Never was a big fan until I started participating in DE's. My current track toy is totally enveloped in 3M and I must admit its the best investment I have made.

I recommend against the Venture Shield product because it seems to scuff very easily - and the scuffs are impossible to remove. I have read that minor marks and scratches can be removed with the 3M product. Other than that, I recommend you get it (I have it on the front and rear).

I can't comment about the available materials, but I suggest that you get a custom installation, not a pre-cut kit. Cover the entire hood, front fenders and bumper. Have them remove all the lights and place the edges behind them.
At some point, due to accumulated surface defects, I will probably have mine completely replaced. The hood doesn't seem to be all that smooth any more. I had one panel replaced already because of a ding from an errant vehicle, which caused no damage to the paint. This is after about 3.5 years in service.

- areas of the car to get covered? If you are budgeting for this, go ahead and get the full front done (full hood, full fenders, front bumper, etc.). All depends on how picky you are with seams. For many of our seam sensitive customers, they end up going for the entire front end, so you do not see a seam going across the hood / fenders, which is the norm in this industry.
