Default Proper Rear size tire for 19x12?

i have 305/30.19 right now on 11.5" wide wheels, they dont reccomend for 12's and i dont really want to "stretch" them,

my stocks are the 265/40.19, and my other stocks are 295/30.19

18" stocks are 26.3" overall diameter
19" stocks are 26.0" overall diameter

my current tires are 26.2" overall diameter.

what would be the proper size for a 12" wheel? 315/25.19 is 25.2" and 325/25.19 is only 25.4"

so curious what you guys run... seems like best plan is to just stick with the 305's but stretching always makes them louder and honestly makes them look a bit silly to me on the 997.

thank you

The 997 GT3 comes with 305/30/19 on 19 x 12.

I have heard from a few sources that it is best to stretch the tire for high performance use meaning if weight isn't an issue go with the wider rim.

The rear tires on the GT2 are 325/30 ZR 19s on the 12s. (Wide body, however).

ordered 325/30 today for new 19x12 wheels... we'll see how it works out... from my calculations it should fit fine, but i guess we'll see in 2 weeks when both tires and wheels come .

Stock 18" 265 versus new 19 on 325

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
265/35-19 3.7in 13.2in 26.3in 82.6in 767 0.0%
325/30-19 3.8in 13.3in 26.7in 83.8in 756 1.4%

I think your car is lowered so you won't be happy with 315's or 325's no matter what the merits. That one inch reduction in diameter almost cancels your drop altogether and you look like you're back to stock. Found this out after I had to buy 315's when 305's were impossible to get.

(PS. Were you in Sarasota about 2 weeks ago? Saw a car just like yours on Stickney Pt. Rd. near US 41 late afternoon. Gawked at the wheels and all where I almost tail ended a Prius. Really, really sweet looking whether it was yours or a clone.)

Right Now I have 305/30 actually so 91.5mm sidewall. 325/30 will increase sidewall 6mm which will increase car height 6mm and decrease fender gap 6mm. The car is lowered considerably but depending on the outcome I can always lower more in rear if desired but I think it will be fine. I was planning on a new alignment soon anyways so I can adjust height prior and get everything done/fixed at once.

Don't think I was in Sarasota, I've been close but not over the big bridge recently.

Running nitto INVO. Which run a little different than my PS2's. The 395 INVO was almost stretched on the 11.5 I had. When I put it on my 11's I realized I like the way it fit the wheels so 325 would be needed for 12's. Fronts will be 245 on 9. So the overall setup will be near identical to GT2 setup.

I know this is an old post, but how did your 325/30/19 tires workout on the 19x12 wheels?
I just ordered new wheels with the new rears increasing to 19x12 vs the stock 997tt 19x11, so I found this post. Thanks in advance!

Should work fine, 305 works too but it will look a little stretched, 325 is a perfect fit for 12" wheels.

We have 19x12 GT3 wheels on my wife's 997.1 C2S and run 305/30s on it. I have Champion RS171s on my C2S that are 11.5" and it also runs 305/30s. No spacers on either an no clearance issues.

For the stock 18'' wheels, are there tires wider than OEM size that could fit?
thanks

Depends on the car/wheels, 18s C2 wheels are 10" wide I believe while C4 is 11".

As for the 19x12, I too was thinking 325/30 though I've read this is ok for the C2 but outside recommended range for cars with AWD and can cause issues down the road. Some people runs then anyway and are "fine", nut I've settled for 305/30 just to be on the safe side.
