porsche has an "organic" design and the spoiler fits into that. you have to push it's buttons to get it up. it's just natural. or, you can go 75mph and it'll get aroused all on its own.

I've got a Cab and I can't stand the look of it up no matter if I'm standing still, going 30mph, 70 mph, or 100mph (can't see my own wing when I'm driving but my friend has a C2S Cab and that's the image I'm relating here). If I had my own way, I'd disable my wing from ever coming up. The backend of my C4S is my favorite view and I think the wing up breaks up the lines.

The shots keep coming. Simply amazing.

For all of you English majors out there that didn't bother reading my opening post, the question was of a technical nature - - a how to disable function - - it was not written as an opinion poll of how it looks.

If you have no technical advice, keep to your own opinions.

George3, its been almost a year since this thread calmed down, but only a few minutes since I discovered it. Quite entertaining, thanks all for the laughs, including the double wing...

Back to the technical question, (I searched... but did not find a clear answer to this yet). i.e.: How / where does one "unplug it" while in "up" position?

Circumventing some possibly funny responses, my reason for leaving that wing up is NOT for looks: I just came back from a DE event, and 50% of the time I kept forgetting pushing that "lift wing" button right before staging - which made that spoiler go up and down all around the track depending on speed, and of course not fast enough to be useful when needed...

Feel free to put a funny twist on this one too, but please make sure you sprinkle a technical response to the question too.

Radio-

During the time I owned my 997 GT3, I became accustomed to having
something "hanging out the back."

Since owning this car (C4S Cab), the original posting question has
become a non-issue and I much prefer the non-spoilered appearance
much better.

I have seen the error of my ways....

I, too, drove a fixed spoiler car for many years and got used to the look. Liked it quite a bit. But I have also aged a bit and the spoiler deployed seems like the 'boy racer' look now--I guess I have grown out of having to have it out there. I like it to show up when it actually contributes (downforce) and goes away when no longer needed (less parasitic drag).

I pulled this excerpt from the package insert, and I urge you to heed this warning. Failure to do so could spell disaster.

Prolonged erection greater than 4 hours and priapism (painful erections greater than 6 hours in duration) have been reported infrequently since market approval of VIAGRA. In the event of an erection that persists longer than 4 hours, the patient should seek immediate medical assistance. If priapism is not treated immediately, penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency could result.

Well, this thread jumped the shark a long time ago (as pretty much all spoiler threads do).

Since Ben isn't here any longer, Dan, I think you mean induced drag (drag caused by creating or destroying lift) as opposed to parasite drag (which is caused by any increase in the equivalent flat plate area). I believe you are absolutely correct about the increase in drag with the spoiler extended.
