i informed her to pull over, turn it off, then turn back on. Message turned off.
She starting driving and bam, the engine stops.

Better safe than sorry.
PDK errors are rare but if engine shuts off on its own... not good. Could be some electronic system (engine/tranny controller) trying to tell you something's seriously wrong and prevent further damage.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Funny timing. I was just sitting here about to post what happened with my PDK on another thread, but since you brought it up...
I got the same message last week after starting to drive home in a mall parking lot. My engine did not die, but it wouldn't shift out of 1st. I "think" I saw the gear indicator increasing even though the engine just kept revving and the transmission at least felt like it was still in first. There was quite a bit of traffic around me, so I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, I pulled over, turned off the car, and started back up, and everything seemed fine except for the check engine light. I took the car in to the dealer the next morning.
After a few days (around the holiday) plus 170 miles of testing and working with field support engineers in Atlanta, they were able to diagnose some kind of communication issue between the transmission and the control of fuel to the engine. At least that's the way they phrased it. They replaced the DME control module (DME/DFI) and sent me on my way. So far so good, but it's only be one day.
The shifting does seem a little different now, not sure if it just has to re-learn my driving style, but I'll keep you all posted.
Thought this information might help.
BTW - My car is a C4S coupe Oct. 08 build with 2,400 miles at the time. I just had the latest PDK software update done a couple weeks ago. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or not.

Since you mention control of fuel... there are reports of HPFP (high-pressure fuel pump) issues in early production DFI engines, and some of those triggered PDK warning messages.

Thanks guys. I will share this with the dealership. This makes me a little nervous. Order the car, takes 4 months to hit the dealer from the factory, pay 100k+ and the 1st week, problems. I hope this is just a fluke and not representative of the build and equipment quality.

These cars are getting WAY to complicated. We'll probably see more and more new types of problems as ever newer and more complicated systems are added to these cars.
Terribly disappointing in your first week of ownership.
GL with repairs.

Here's my original post regarding my similar issue. Since I have been keeping the battery charged via the battery tender it has not happened again. So, I suspect low voltage was the culprit.

I bought one of those CTEK Multi3000 battery chargers (looks like the OEM, but no logo, and 1/2 the price) soon after I got my car - I have that "bad driving profile" for batteries: "short, infrequent drives". And my car came off the lot - probably was there a few months and I'm sure got the same battery wear treatment. When I first hooked it up, it took several hours to go "green".
Seems like a good thing to have and use.
