My first Porsche - new 09 997; on start up in the morning, I've noticed alot of smoke after initial turnover...is this normal? It doesn't continue after the car warms up. Comments?
Thanks!

If its white like condensation/vapor...not to worry.
Do a search and by the time you are finished you will be an expert of white, blue, and black smoke.
BTW, don't make the same mistakes I've made in my life....introduce yourself like meeting a new person, tell us how wonderful this site is, and don't forget to tell us how you read all of abe's posting and you think he's the greatest.
good luck

Every Porsche I've owned including 964, 993, 986, 987, and 997 has done this on occasion.

White smoke could be improper cool-down shut off. If you drive spiritedly (and you should ) you should cool-down the engine before you shut it off for a few hours. The last 2-3 miles should be driven slowly and i like to let the engine idle a couple of minutes before I turn it off.

White smoke starts also depend on where you live. If you live in a humid area it will happen more often especially if the cool-down shut off is not done.

Here's one thing I learned: If you drive the car near 10/10ths on the track, you need to let it idle for approx. 5 minutes before you shut it off. If you don't, the next time you start it up, there will be huge billows of white smoke, and it will last for several minutes. People will walk over and ask you what's wrong with your car.
Apparently, it's harmless, but there will be LOADS of it.

And now you know why not ALL used Porsches are CPOs.
