Default Garage Flooring

I'm having a hard time deciding on flooring for my garage. I'm going back and forth between just leaving the cement as is or putting an epoxy or a checkerboard tile look. Are there advantages or disadvantes to the epoxy or the tile? Which is easier to keep clean? Does anyone regret spending the extra $$ to finish the floor in something nicer than just concrete.

Yeh, tons of threads with lots of good info.

Someday I am going to do a search of "OCBen" just for the helluva it - or, maybe not, it might crash the IB servers! (No offense intended!)

Yeah, you really don't wanna do that, Jim. It'll be like dividing by zero.

I'd like to know what % of OCBen's 14,688 posts are giving people search results.
I'm going to go with 37.9% as a wild guestimate.

To the OP, I guess it depends on where you live. I'm in Colorado and we have winter. The Epoxy time flooring (I have Premier Garage) is amazing. In the spring you just pressure wash it out and it looks brand new. Seems like tiles would a total PITA...especially if they were the vented kind where water, oil, etc fall down beneath the tile.

I have no regrets spending what I did on my premier garage floor.

The best part about Premier Garage is that it's not an Epoxy and you're back in your garage in 24-48 hours vs. 7-10 days for an Epoxy. The warranty is also a lot longer. Absolutely great product.

Searching for the word "search" in posts by OCBen only yields 246 results. I would have expected 10x that, but it's still more posts than a lot of members (including me) have made since joining.

Keep it up, Ben!

The search function in vBulletin is somewhat rudimentary. It can access a wide database quickly but the search algorithm is very primitive in my opinion. It works best with a single significant keyword in the singular form, as plural forms are also picked up by the search, but searching using the plural will usually ignore results in the singular.

In this example I used the single, significant keyword of garage to pull in all threads having garage in the title. From the results it was easy to select the relevant ones.

I use search a lot to find information useful to me all the time.

But still, that's only about 1.7% of my posts. Not that many at all.

I would have liked to install an epoxy type flooring in my garage, but the concrete is bad due to lack of proper vapor barrier underneath resulting in spalling/pitting, moisture penetration/effluorescence etc. I therefore elected to install the interlocking race-deck tiles that float on top. It is a big improvement over the old concrete floor, and can be mopped quite easily. Last month I removed the whole floor in 2 pieces to clean up the concrete floor, then just put the pieces back in.

I usually wash my cars in the garage using ONR, would this be possible to do with these tiles. How would they be if they got fairly wet?

It wouldn't hurt the tiles, but the water would seep between them and sit on the floor underneath, and have a hard time evaporating under the tiles. They recommend not soaking them, but just damp mopping them to keep clean. I've attached photos of both sides. As you'll see, the bottom ribs have reliefs to allow any moisture to migrate under them. The tiles would not be recommended if you wanted to wash your car in the garage, unless you don't use a lot of water.
