Default Tow Hook License Bracket

There are several tow hook license plate brackets, e.g., www.moweraxle.com and www.gominigo.com/NHLPB-main.html, and others. Which is the favorite?

I use the moweraxle kit once a year if you catch my drift.
It works great for this purpose,....easy on, easy off.
I keep it in my trunk along with a license plate just in case.

I try to avoid encounters with 'the man' by not giving them an excuse to stop me in the first place. I simply mounted my mandatory front plate lower where I didn't have to drill into paint. If you don't have a center radiator then you can simply copy my plate placement.

Can you explain how you did your front plate? I like the way it looks.

I've been looking for one of these for my 996 as of late, too. I thought there was a Canadian guy that was selling something very similar to the "professional" ones for $30-40...anyone remember him?

It's not exactly a highly technical part, so I question if they're worth $70-90.

That may be true but I shudder to think what would happen if it broke off at speed and went cartwheeling over the top of the car. I'd rather have a quality product and the piece of mind.

I put 4 SS bolts through the roof of the center plug (black plastic filler-panel) and backed them up with good sized fender washers. To those studs I mounted a couple of gate hinges. On the hinge I drilled and tapped screw threads to mount a stock European plate mount. Any standard US state plate will fit that setup. As a bonus, it hangs down just below the front lip of the car, and sounds off should I get close to the ground with a steep dip. When I start to hear the edge of the plate holder, I know I'm close to doing damage to the nose of the car.

(I also put a ABS skid plate on the front to keep things from getting damaged up front)

The item you are referring to is this one:

It seems very well made and the plate backing is plastic and is lighter. The fasteners are all high quality. It costs $35. The vendor contact is: stumberger_r@msn.com.

More info on this THREAD.

Where did you get the skid plate?

I think it was from Performance Products.

Here you go:

http://www.automotion.com/product.as...Fid=4086#tab_a

You'll need to add some more holes and fasteners than what they send you.
