You have an 06 correct? My 06 and 07 did not produce much soot at all. I had free flowing Fabspeed mufflers on those 2 cars also. Also my 06 and 07 did not consume oil either, even a full weekend of tracking I did not burn much if any oil. I never followed the break in on the 07 and it ran super strong. I followed the break in on my 09 and it seems to run good but has been consuming oil, but that is getting better it seems, however this soot issue has me really PO'd.

Delivery of my C2S was early January. It now has 2000 miles onit (break-in over) and yest there is a little soot on the inside and lip of the exhaust tips but nothing extreme. I clean it off when I wash the car. Have not noticed any oil burn or loss ( and that is a biggie after the GT3 and four RMS leaks) So far I am very happy with the car. If there were a single concern is that the ABS is perhaps a little sensitive, was told that is normal. Those with problems keep the rest of us informed and Mdrums hope yours is cured, it is a great vehicle.

Your lucky with no oil burn and soot! Congrat's!

Yes the ABS is more sensative on the 09, especially at slow speeds and cold tires. The ABS is kinda of weird in this car but I will let you know how it works out with hot tires with better grip at the track next month.

Kind of surprising that the new DI engine would generate a lot of soot since it supposedly has lower emissions.

When you add up the CS2 soot problem, the inexplicable and inexcusable loss of classic Porsche engine sound going from CS1 to CS2, and the newly issued circumcised "hot dog" exhaust tips of the new PSE, it looks like Porsche really eff'd this one up....

Exxon Supreme or Mobil Super + (both 93 octane) (10% ethanol if bought in the Houston area).

I've got a little over 800 miles now on my 997.2 4S. I've noticed quite a bit of soot on the tailpipes (not washed it yet) but none on the garage floor. I've already added .5 qt of oil and looks like it could use a little more already. I'm not too concerned as it sounds about average but interested to see if it tails off any as I put on more miles.

Mdrums:

I can't imagine you are the kind of driver that would have sooty pipes. There must be a problem.

My pipes almost look a little lean if anything and no oil consumption.

Edgy01:

I too had a sport exhaust muffler replaced under warranty but they only did one side. I'll have to have them give my car a thorough looking over before my warranty is up at the end of Jan. 2010.

Watch it closely. These guys went with both sides, knowing that the other would probably go out soon. I noticed on the boxes that there were significantly different manufacturing dates on them. One side was from mid 2006, and the other from late 08. Clearly, they are trying to replace one instead of two if they can get away with it.

It's so odd to have perfectly CLEAN tailpipes now, since they replaced them as well today.

Ha ha , yeah that what I though too...my 06 and 06 Carrera S cars did not have sooty pipes nor did they burn oil.

Interesting - I too had one side of PSE replaced under warranty last August (just as my warranty was expiring), and I still have concerns that the other side is going.
