That is about my level of expertise. I think that I am most concerned with doing something that I can't get beck together, or something that I run out of time during the job.

I built 2 Cycle lay-down go-Kart motors for about 4 years. I love
working on my own car but I hate working on someone else's car.
I have not dropped a Porsche motor yet.
My friend has.

Uhmm... yeah, I'm really going to want to buy a used Ferrari from someone who has the do it yourself mentality with his Ferrari all over the house garage floor.

I've set up production lines for many niche products including Ford GT and the new Ford Cobra Jet Mustang. I love cars but beyond work I'd rather drive than work on them.

I gotta ask... then why do you have 6 torque wrenches?

Everything I know about auto mechanics I learned from my first car, a '68 MGB-GT.

One torque wrench. I'd describe me as "mechanically inclined" as opposed to "a mechanic". I'm doing the 20k mi. service on my 997. Just ordered a set of pads. etc. Cant afford to take the car in everytime routine maint. is needed.

got one of these too! I can do "take apart/reassemble" type stuff. Better at some stuff than others....timing has always mystified me. Not much good at "tapping threads"...

My Ferrari's gonna need a belt service soon and I'd like to do it myself. But, there's that "timing" thing again...

The $$ Porsche (and ferrari) mechanics charges gives me the feeling their saying..."we're screwing you buddy he'he"...and that'll outweigh the intimidation I feel at doin' it myself and I take a "It's just a car...I'll do it for that kina money!!" attitude and just do it myself. LOL

No mechanical aptitude on my part, and most important time does not allow me to dabble in this. I am only interested in driving these cars to the limits of my ability and have loads of fun. A family member of mine has taken the responsibility in preparing the car for track events; hence, I don't even change the tires and helping me load and secure the car on the trailer. Heck, he even washes and waxes all my vehicles. Of course I pay him for his time, even though he would gladly do it for free. Life is good.

I started on tractors and moved up to Pontiacs before the real P-cars. But I mainly mess with the ‘69 track 911 and leave the 997 to the guys with the gear to talk to its computer.

I resemble that more than I'd care to admit. I think how involved one gets is dependent upon how much you wrenched when younger. I raced YZ bikes and constantly was fixing same. After high school, my Bud bought a road construction company when I went off to college and I worked for him wrenching, etc, in my summers.. etc. You learn if that is what you must do
