One fear I have about these things is that the car gets damaged in transit and gets repaired at the port. I wonder how often that happens and how good the repairs are.

Most of what was mentioned is small stuff. I noticed one paint blemish in the rear bumper NOT A BIG DEAL. What i would classify as a big deal was the oil pressure gauge on the 997 GT3 and RS. It's scale tops out at 5 BARs (a BAR is equal to aprox. 14.5 psi) However the operating oil pressure of the gT3 engine, at normal operating temp and 3000 RPM is over 6 BAR so once you get above 2000 RPM the gauge was pegged. This is from the tech data, however again, The owners manual states that a 3000 RPM the oil pressure should read 3.5 BARS now there is a real oversight. Minor paint blemishes and badges are not a big thing.

Yeah if those launch C4S's with the sport buckets didn't have that strip I would've bought one already.

The lettering is in the right spot... but the wrong decklid.

How did that: 1) get bolted on by the assembly guys, and then 2) get past the final q/a check as well. Maybe no one checks for it because they think no one would make such a huge mistake.
I'd guess it might be more likely this happened at PDI .... than Zuffenhausen.
Things get 'fixed' there.

So having the entirely WRONG rear deck lid on your 997 isn't a big thing? I wonder if the certificate of authenticity will attest to the fact that it came with a Carrera 2 deck lid ?

Yeah, that might be. I'd like to know how it left the factory. If it was because it was fixed, they really hosed up the fix.

Can we change the header from '997.2 issues' to 'Porsche quality control issues'?

All of the 'issues' pointed out here should have been caught at the vehicle processing centers prior to dealer delivery, are purely cosmetic, and not necessarily limited to the 997.2.

Years ago when I was an auto writer we had a Chrysler Pacifica in a comparison test that had AWD badges, AWD build sheet, AWD price but no AWD drivetrain. Ooops.

I'd take a look under that car and make sure it was a '4'.
