See there is the difference, the X51 is made with carbon fiber, the one we are selling is 100% carbon fiber. And if they have any data on theirs having more cfm than the x51, then I will be posting it up today.

I also have to disagree and agree on the cost comment. "Most" carbon pieces are very expensive, however to produce anything out of carbon is no walk in the park so to speak and with carbon fiber you get what you pay for. Most carbon products that are inexpensive usually dont look good.

However if I was in the market for an x51, I would spend the few extra bucks to get this item because by the time you calculate how much your going to spend on having someone do all the modifcations to install the x51 which is not a walk in the park either, They should come out around the same price and the Carboniotakes 10 minutes to put in and its made of 100% real carbon fiber unlike the x51 which is carbon wrapped around plastic.

Thanks, It's definately a product that's here to stay and we've been a carbonio dealer for quite some time and all their product, from their vw and audi air boxes to their AMG Mercedes air boxes, are all top notch product and fit very well.

Even if the Porsche X51 airbox is predominantly plastic with a single decorative layer of carbon fiber, it LOOKS like it belongs in there instead of that thing. It looks so aftermarket that it detracts. I think people are looking for an integrated design.

100% carbon, more CFM than the x-51 and it fits better than the x-51 with no modification needed. Carbonio never uses dyno testing on their intakes because it doesn't reflect real like air flow. They do track passes. I'm waiting on the exact number from paul@carboniointakes.com as we speak. Feel free to contact him directly if you feel the need!

How many CFM do you need ?
This was from the 996 board (for a 3.6 -996 engine)

"The stock unit flows 829 CFM

So how much air does the engine need ?

Assume a 3.6 lt. Its a four stroke engine (duh!) so the cylinders take in air every second crank rotation.
At redline (7500RPM) there are 3750 intake gulps per minute
Or an air flow of 3.6lt x 3750 = 13500 lt/min
This translates to 476.75 CFM

So the stock unit seems to allow almost 2x the max required airflow at redline. "

Its not the CFM that matters so much as the pressure drop needed to get the air flow required. You can flow 500CFM thru a drinking straw if you put enough pressure behind it. So its really the pressure-flow curves that are required
Amateur science really makes me chuckle sometimes.

No offense intended to the OP but the X51 airbox Looks like it belongs in there because it was designed that way. As far as the piece in question is concerned, you be the judge.

I appreciate anyone bringing product to market in this environment but if I was going to spend this kind of $ on an airbox for my 997S, it would be the Porsche designed, Porsche built, Porsche backed piece.

But that's just me.

Perhaps it will sell if offered in a special combo deal with the super duper intake plenum! That should double the hp claims!
