Losing Porsche Roadside Assistance. What to Replace it With?
Since my '05 cab will soon be hitting the 50k mi. mark I called Porsche to find out if there was a way to pay to continue to have access to their Roadside Assistance which, the two times I've used it, has been great. The answer was "no". Even the extended warranty program that my Porsche dealer sells only reimburses you for towing and doesn't give acess to a specific towing service.
In my pre-Porsche days I belonged to AAA but I note that one now has to be a member for a least a year to get access to their premium program that provides 100 mi. towing. Any recommendations on alternatives (especially from people in the New York City area) would be appreciated.

AAA, get the gold plan so you can have the car towed to the nearest Porsche dealer as opposed to the local AAA garage.

Well, the Amex Gold card has a yearly membership fee, so its not free, per say, but part of the fee you pay. Nonetheless, good deal.
I've used AAA twice for towing. Once in Baton Rouge when the timing belt on my Golf broke.. towed to my shop. Then when moving up to Seattle, a radiator hose popped off in New Mexico, and the tow took me 50 miles to an interstate gas station so I could refill the coolant (reattaching the hose and clamp was easy... but I didn't have a gallon of water in the trunk to refill the system with). However, the tow was scary - the driver was pulling the car with me in the cab of the truck, doing 70 on a 2 lane highway, in a torrential downpoor, passing cars in a very dangerous manner, with no seat belts for the passengers. My car lost its front license plate, a front reflector cover and got some scuffing on the front bumper thanks to the tow.
I'm going to investigate a non-AAA option, but having a towing option is good insurance, as a to is very expensive.
