I would take any of these cars. They're all awesome and the lineage is fantastic. To my eye, the 997 looks great, but agreed, the rear lights stung me a little bit. However, the Mitsubishi post above sort of captures the sentiment. Anyway, the interior is great and I surely would drive one, but man, it ain't worth 2x+ what my car would trade for. Y'all are nuts buying into this crap for an extra 10-20 bhp. Our country has really fallen down the credit-looking hole, hasn't it?
For the record, if the amber bottom portion of the 996 headlight is what is referred to as the "fried egg" look then only the 1999 996s have the fried egg look. The amber headlights(and taillights) were only present on the 1999 models, starting in 2000 the headlights(and taillights) were changed to all clear. I have a 2000 996 and the headlights are all clear.
Also, the shape of the headlights were changed slightly in 2002. There are two designs for the 996 headlights, pre-2002(with the 1999 having the amber lens) and post-2002.
Carry on with the misinformation gentleman. HAHA
You're spouting some misinformation yourself...the all clear 996 Mk1 headlights actually appeared halfway through MY99. You can distinguish an "early" '99 with a "late" '99 based on the amber portion on the bottom of the headlight assembly. I happen to have a late '99 C4 with the clear headlights.
I am not ready to accept aesthetic advice from someone who uses a picture of a farking Escalade as their avatar.
what's wrong with my pimp mobile?? It is huge, it is big, exhaust sounds like a power boat, I get 8 mpg, I support the american economy buying US manufactured greatness, ofcourse I could have bought a hot pepper porsche, but have you seen that car on the inside???

Very sorry!!!
I did not mean to offend your "late '99 model 996" by lumping it in with the rest of the "fried egg" group.
Please accept my apologies. I will try hard to keep from spouting in the future. LOL
That's my point guys. It's incremental changes that you all seem to like, else you'd still be in 993s or 964s or what not. The point is, if the new looks suits you, enjoy it. Else, enjoy what you already have.
