No seriously, I have no idea what mk1 and mk2 stand for.
I understand "mk" to be an abbreviation for "mark," which I in turn understand to be a largely European term for "generation." Either or both of those preceding points could be completely wrong for all I know, but it appears to be a commonly accepted term 'round these parts.

That is not a "fried egg", that is a "frying" egg! (j/k)

Actually the GT1 originally had round headlights and looked far better in that guise. They changed them to look like the 996 for marketing purposes. I've always liked the round headlights- but I'm a 993 (and hopefully very soon to be) 997 owner.

911s have always had tailights that were laterally equal (or close thereto). I don't like the new taillights either. It's like it was change for the sake of change.

Thanks for the explanation.

Now we're getting to how the term came up in the first place. I now see the resemblance to the Boxster/mk1 996 headlamps.

For the record, if the amber bottom portion of the 996 headlight is what is referred to as the "fried egg" look then only the 1999 996s have the fried egg look. The amber headlights(and taillights) were only present on the 1999 models, starting in 2000 the headlights(and taillights) were changed to all clear. I have a 2000 996 and the headlights are all clear.

Also, the shape of the headlights were changed slightly in 2002. There are two designs for the 996 headlights, pre-2002(with the 1999 having the amber lens) and post-2002.

Carry on with the misinformation gentleman. HAHA

Actually, that looks sunny side up!

Damn, all this egg talk sure is making me hungry. I missed breakfast this morning and need to wait until lunch before having something to eat.

...which is in about 5 mins or so.

Hey why not!!!

Funny you should mention the definition of each.

My wife likes her eggs sunny-side-up, and I like mine over-easy. I always tell her it's not good to have uncooked egg white on top because of the risk of salmonella poisoning. So when I cook her eggs (I'm usually the one cooking breakfast) I use a small pan and place a little water inside and close the lid. The steam will poach the top side and fully cook the egg white while leaving the yolk creamy like she likes it. She'll say that I in effect cooked her eggs over-easy this way. And I'll say that by defiinition over-easy requires the egg to be flipped over, which is not the case here. And then she'll say that it looks "over easy." And I'll say that looks are not the basis of the definition. So we'll quibble back and forth over this all in good fun at the OCBen breakfast table.

It's 12, 251 posts to you!

Hey, nobody's arguing here. We're just engaging in some levity for a change.

Did you know what mk1/mk2 stood for? I didn't. That's why I asked.
