The ding is your fault. Why did you let someone get in your car with it parked so close to a pole that upon opening it would hit it? In hindsight you should have opened the door for her. Bet a buck you are more careful next time.

Look at this way ---> What would you do if you had done it yourself ???? Right ...... so get it fixed. You are like the most of us .......... We don't want dings either. It just hurts more when somebody else does it. Believe me I go over my car like with a fine tooth comb everytime I go out for a drive and come back from a drive. I swear I come back with scatches that wasn't there when I left. It must be the wind!

I think friendship is worth more than the minor costs of having the chip repaired. I wouldn't jeopardize a friendship over something so trivial. Accidents happen. Suck it up, park more carefully next time or open the door yourself.

Got to agree with pongobaz -- friendships are more important than cars. Not saying that I wouldn't have felt the same way when it happened. But, look at it this way, the first chip is always the worst. Thank goodness it's as small as it is. I bet that chip will be easier to repair than a friendship, if you let this thing drag out.

I'd let it go. Friends will always be more valuable than the car, and she didn't mean to do it. Sometimes, **** happens. I let my friends drive my car (even let a co-worker drive it who's also a car guy and was just drooling when I got it), and I realize they may not treat it the same as I do. I get more pleasure out of being able to provide the thrill than I do of having a perfectly pristine car. If she was less apologetic about it, it might be a different story. But otherwise, like they said above, it's just a thing.

I would say let it go and pay to get it fixed yourself.

If she has apologized many times, I think that's more than enough. And if I'm reading this correctly and their income is not particularly high, you wouldn't want to saddle them with the repair bill when it is a trivial amount of money to a 997 owner.
Of course, if she's really hot, perhaps you could 'make out' some other arrangement: it is after all a P-car.
