Default vehicle diversity - color uniformity

To celebrate my retirement this summer (at 52 yo), I went on a new car buying spree. A fun car and a winter car, each, for my wife and me. [apologies for the poor lighting]:

- 2007 997 C2S aerokit (thanks Chris at Porsche of North Olmsted)
- 2008 Jeep Wrangler with Rubicon tires
- 2007 Mini Cooper S (wife)
- 2007 Audi A4 Quattro (wife)

Note the 1995 H-D Fatboy (bought new 13 years ago) in the foreground to prove that my boring color preference has deep roots.

We live at 8,200 feet and with an estimated 24% bhp loss at that altitude, the Mini (negligible loss due to forced induction) feels almost as quick as the Porsche.

The Jeep has the factory upgraded Infinity sound system and puts my 997’s Bose system to shame.

BTW, that's the standard color for the BackYard Buddy lift, but I think that it fits in well.

Congrats on your success. Cars always seem to go faster in red...

So... unless your wife leaves the house, you can't drive the Porsche?

Congrats!

Can you give me some information on your lift?
Did you have installed?
What is the height of the ceiling in your garage? What model did you order?

It looks bada$$.
congrats on the stable.

It's a Backyard Buddy 7,000# extended height (a little over $5K installed/shipped). The ceiling is 13' with a hi-lift kit on the door and a Liftmaster side-mount opener. Realistically, you need at least a 10' ceiling. Basically you need 6" plus the height of the two vehicles. The two keys to chosing a lift are: not China-built and a secure locking system (at each height increment) - BYB meets both criteria.

The www.garagejournal.com forums are a great resource on lifts and all things for a cool garage. Those guys are fanatics.

Note the oil change system in the second pic - 15 minutes and $60 are all that I need. That box behind the oil changing tool is a new front spoiler lip - oops.

Thanks so much for the info. I've got a 12' garage ceiling. Your setup looks extremely sweet. I'm going to have to consider something like that. The oil change system is pretty cool as well.

Who did your install?

Congratulations on the early retirement. I retired 6 years ago at age 53. I did have a rough first 6 months or so of not going to my job (which I enjoyed) but now I couldn’t imagine having to go to work every day.

Whereas I would be a little afraid to go into your garage for fear of burning a retina I respect someone who buys what THEY want and I love your garage with the lift. My garage has a 15” (in the center) ceiling and I ran the garage doors parallel with the slope of the ceiling and have been contemplating installing a lift. Thanks for the info.

Enjoy your retirement!

You will like your Jeep Wrangler. Chrysler added a lot of Mercedes Benz technology. Traction Control, Stability Control, good ABS brakes. That thing will climb a brick wall if you want to and it is a good highway truck. A lot more stable on snow and ice than the old ones.

It will even do a 100.

Congrats on your retirement and the lift...well lets just say a picture IS worth 1000 words! AWESOME! New idea for the wife...I know I've got 10+ ceilings and with the new M3 on the way (daily driver) I now have a place to put car #4! Do you know if the company that did your lift does East Coast work?

This guy added 33.2 bhp to his JK for $700 (muffler, CAI, and chip). Jeep leaves "more on the table" than Porsche. For a heavy vehicle like your Unlimited, you may be interested. If you haven't seen www.jk-forum.com you'll like it also.

Just measured....ceilings are 11.5 feet but with a cross i beam that runs across the garage which probably takes 1/2 foot out of the equation...would it still work you think?
