997 Horn is Wimpy - Change it?
Every time I honk my horn (which isn't that often), I am re-surprised at how "wimpy" the single-tone horn is.
Has anyone replaced the stock 997 horn? And, if so, how hard is it to get at the horn to swap it out with something a little more fitting for the car?

If you have a wimpy, single-tone horn, it might be broken. Mine went bad, and it sounded as you described.
The horn isn't exotic sounding (unlike the 911s of old), but it is loud and multi-toned.

I had mine replaced with a Hella air horn. Two plastic trumpets, an air compressor and a relay. Price about $50. The bumper has to come off. I had a center radiator put in and the horn was done at the same time. A fused lead to the battery was also installed to power the compressor, as the stock wiring was too light to handle the current draw.

You may have missed these, John.

What time is "Matlock" on? I love that show.
I actually "searched," too. Not very well, apparently.
I even participated in the second thread.
I'm sorry...what we were talking about, again?

I may have the same problem, as mine really sounds wimpy. I can't recall if it's monotonic or not. Might be.

I actually like the sound of my Mini's horn. It's got a "big car" horn sound and makes people stand up and notice. I've been thinking of replacing my expensive Porsche horn with a 'manly' Mini horn - talk about an oxymoron!

I love the horns on my 356 - much louder and better sounding than my 997S! The currently available Hella horns (I think Griots sells them) probably are similar. And I just found a new old stock 1960's 6v dual trumpet rally horn for my 356, can't wait to install it.

As I indicated in my post on the prior horn thread, I have installed these Compact Italian Air Horns
I had them in my Boxster and now my 997. They are way louder then the wimpy horns, and sound just like European horns, without the seperatec compressor and trumpets.
