I think that it was on Fortune Magazine online that I read that the average income of a 911 owner is $390,000/year.
My questions is, what do people do for a living to afford these beautiful cars? I live in South Orange County, CA (Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, et al), and I see at least a dozen 996s and 997s per day (not to mention the countless BMW 7-Series, Mercedes SLs and S-class cars and other $100k+ vehicles).
It boggles the mind to think that so many people are making this astronomical sum of money.

i'm always skeptical of those surveys. anyway, i tend to think that alot of people have their high-end luxury cars, esp if new, paid for by their companies. otw, the significant depreciation hit would be deterrent enough for any rational, educated person who values hard-earned money, even if you make $400k/year.

The $390K/yr figure touted by Fortune is pretty much meaningless, and hardly a metric I'd go by in determining if a 911 is affordable. As robbonds points out, the outliers skew the mean (average) value. A more interesting value would be the median value and standard-deviation of owner's reported incomes.

Also, a lot of people don't own their cars and end up trying to get out of their lease early. Also, a lot of people don't own their property clear title. Looks can be deceiving!
