Default Sport Exhaust or no Sport Exhaust?

My dealer has a 911 4S that I'm salivating over but, alas, it does not have the sport exhaust option. This will be my first Porsche since 1974 so I don't have a clue about what is current. Can you add this at the dealership? (I will have to ask them, of course)... and does this do anything other than sound so so so sweet?

Easy to add, and dealer should have enough profit in the part to cover their labor to do a full install and still charge no more than the $2,400 option price. A "full" install means wiring it in so that it can be turned on/off with the sport chrono button (if you have sport chrono) or by a separate on/off button for the sport exhaust. It is also possible to just install the cans only (about 1 hour labor) and have then on (loud) all the time - which is what I did with my after delivery install.

No HP gains, just sweet sounds.

Hi,
With all the after market options, either way you will still be a winner.

I paid a dealer in CT I think $2400 total last summer- parts, tax, install. This did not include the wiring which was going to cost a bunch. I can not imagine wanting to turn off the PSE ever. Forget the wiring, just decide if the $3-400 is worth it to you or do you want to do the labor.

Personally, it's a great option (from a guy who had several older 911s) but I sure like the switch and the ability to turn it on and off at will. Having a cabriolet,--sometimes (rarely) I like it quieter.

After having the PSE, I would say that it is priceless to put a smile on my face every time I step on the throttle.

The PSE really turns the car into a totally different animal.

I would highly recommend to get the PSE.

Regards,
- Alex.

I think that without the (extra) sound you will never be content ( I always switch mine to sport) - BUT.. an aftermarket option will sound as good (better perhaps) and give you more BHP if you buy wisely. IMO ; If the rest of the car is right for you buy it and put on an aftermarket system.

Def worth getting the PSE. Loud when you want it to be. As other have pointed out, approx $2500 as a dealer supply and fit. You'll enjoy it...go for it.

so let me ask for clarification:
1- you can install these later
2- you can do it via the dealer or with 3rd party parts
3- its all about the sound and does *not* increase or change performance?

Is the above correct?

(I would definitely want to be able to turn it off and on)

Yes
Yes
Yes to your questions,
And there is really no need to ever turn it off, as it is not that loud. You can basically control lousness with the throttle.

Just remember PSE=Porsche Sports Exhaust. Thats the only "official" one and comes with the on/off switch. It can be added by the dealer or some other competent installer. It offers musical enjoyment only.

There are many other sports exhausts that you can add and some claim additional HP.

Personally I think PSE is a must have option and I will never have a Porsche in the future that does not have it!

So the answers to your questions are
1 Yes to all
2 PSE is only available through Porsche. The other systems from multiple sources
3 PSE is about the music. Some other systems do also claim HP boost.
