"I'm not worried about hp or torque gains - I'm simply trying to free up my 3.8 to make it rev more easily."

I agree. I replaced the Header on My BMW R1200 GS boxer engine and got that result. Long story short replacing the header did away with the CAT Converter competely. I have been seriousily thinking the way to go may be the X-51 Headers and the AWE cats. May be the best bang for the buck.

If I want more noise later add the AWE muffler as funds permit.

Actual, dyno measured before & after results for the Champion air box would be helpful. The part is very attractive, but wildly overpriced at about 20% of the installed cost of a supercharger system. How anyone would purchase such a part without demonstrated power improvements, unless for purely cosmetic reasons, is beyond my comprehension.

In addition, assuming that the air box made real power, why can't it be manufactured in a less expensive material? The airflow doesn't care about the appearance of what it passes through.

Hey Michael:

I don't think it's about any overall hp/tq gains, it's the ability for the engine to breathe freely that would make the difference for me...

That being said: a carbon fiber airbox is total freaking overkill. If Champion would offer the same box in fiberglass, I'd snag one in a heartbeat - even if it was $1,000. $3,000? That really bothers me.

$3000.00 for an AIRBOX?? Comeon!!

I'd just go with the X51 airbox. Add a K&N and you're better off.

3 grand for an airbox, jeez

X51 airbox installed quote... $2,700. Beautiful workmanship, better flow, but extremely expensive.
