Question Should I trade my 2006 Carrera S for a 2007 Audi S8?

Guys,

I have a chance to buy a 2007 black/black Audi S8. This particular car is not spoken for and it is COMPLETELY loaded. The car is on the boat as we speak.

Every option was checked:
ski sack,
carbon fiber belt line trim,
rear seat electric lumbar,
Bang & olufsen sound,
Adaptive cruise control,
Dual rearseat climate control,
full leather upgrade,
premium package,
serius satellite radio

MSRP should be $113,395.

If you now anything about the S8 you know it has the Lambo V10, 6 speed tip and Quattro with a 60% rear bias, etc.

Information here:
http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm...di/new-audi-s8

OK, I've had my 2006 Carrera S with X51 for 15 months. She has 10,000 miles on the odometer. The car has been great.

What do I like about the S8? Almost has the Porsche's performance. Has a spare tire. Holds four adults in supreme comfort. Has the Lambo V-10. Quattro. Sirius sat radio. Has the Lambo V-10.

With a $1,000 deposit the S8 is mine.

We only have a one car garage. I can only own one of these two cars.

Money is not an issue.

What should I do?

Tough choice. I had an Audi S4 and loved it. What I found is that I could count on one had the number of times over 18 months I had (or had a need for) for more than 2 seats. I've had my p-car more than 8 months and haven't needed the extra seats.

I like the smaller 997S with the manual transmission. But, that's just me. Good luck..

S4 is an awesome car. We have a 2001 Audi allroad with the 2.7TT that we adore. It's why I know I will like the S8. We have two kids so using all four seats will happen. Though I'd like to keep the kids in the somewhat trashed allroad as much as possible and save the S8 for when we go out on the town with friends. But there is no doubt it will just be me in the car a great deal of the time.

Another factor is that I roadtrip to Dallas a lot to see my business partner. The 997S is loud on the highway for 10 hour stints.

Are you bored with your 997S? If not have your circumstances changed? If neither is the case I can't for one minute understand why you would want to buy an S8. Great cars without doubt, but no sports car.

Build another garage? Could happen sometime in the future. Maybe then I get another 911? Amybe I just forget the whole thing and save myself the money and continue to drive the 911? I'm really torn here. The S8 has always been a dream car of mine (ever see Ronin).....just like the 911 was. Well, I've had two 911s and no S8.

But the Audi will always be ..........just a sedan. Buy what you want and will give you that visceral rush everytime you use it. If a sedan does this.....then buy it.....

Posted a response to you on Rennteam but I agree with the above post. I debated M5 vs 997 and in fact had a deposit on an M5. In almost 9 months I rarely carry any passengers and when I do it's usually in our SUV. Still enjoying my 997.

Good luck in you decision.

The 997 and S8 are apples and oranges. Either you want a sports car or a sedan. One is surgical for the curves and the other brute force for the straight autobahn. It sounds obvious to me that you don't care much for the 997 any longer so you should go ahead and get the S8. That's just me reading between the lines...

Me, I'd never want an S8, especially one that's loaded. I'm minimalist and lightly optioned my 997S because I want as pure an iconic sports car as I can get...

I had an '05 S4 and really didn't like it - sold it to buy the P-car. I've always loved the A8 and from what I hear, the S8 is awesome - it just beat out the new manual M5 in a comparo (C&D I think). I just found the S4 heavy, with notchy shifting, active steering which I didn't like at all -- but very fast. The large Audis are great cars, but obviously very different from what you're currently driving.

I don't recall ever passing an S8 on the road and thinking to myself, "Man, I wish I had one of those instead of this Porsche."
