Aerosmith,

Good luck with your decision. We are in this forum because we love Porsches. So I think you will regret every single day without a Porsche 911 if money is not the issue here. My humble suggestion, get the S8 (nice, beautiful car) and keep the 911. I am sure there has to be a way with the garage.

Audis are very cool cars for sure... if it was me, for the $$ you are talking about I would own an Audi RS4 and keep the 997S.... the RS4 is a lot smaller, but still will seat 4 ocassionally and also looks sportier I think, will be rarer than the S8, but very close in performance, it is a beast.... that way, you keep your sportscar and have a super fast somewhat rare Audi 4-door in the garage...

Yup, no way I'd trade a 911 for an S8! Sure it has 500hp, but it's still a 'nice sedan' no iconic sports car for sure! Sure it has gob loads of power and will handle quite well, no way in hell I'd trade!

That's just me, every one has their own opinions and different strokes for different folks.

I had a S4 Cab before buying my 997S. I made the switch because I wanted a real sports car and I did not need three cars with AWD (also have a Range Rover and a Land Cruiser). The S4 is not the same car as the new S8, the S8 is likely faster in a straight line. The huge difference between the Audi and the P car for me is weight and handling. My S4 tended to plow on tight fast turns, on those same turns my Porsche rides like its on rails, no body roll and I can take them at a much faster speed. You should also think about whether you need or want two AWD cars. Does Audi still offer 4 yr / 50K coverage on the S8? I know they recently dropped it on their other cars.

yes, but the RS4 is a completely different story... built in limited numbers compared to the S4 and performance should be very similar to the 997S but with 4 doors... to me having both would be ideal, but alas the $150-$170k worth of cars is not in my budget

You're in Florida, right?....snow is not an issue. I would get the S8 and pick which car stays outside at night...cover it when not in use and be done with it. I have an 8L also,(shoulda waited for the S8) but I would not sacrifice my 911 if I were you, you will miss it like a junkie misses crack

I always want to have a Porsche in the garage, but I have to say that the S8 is one beautiful package. The looks, the engine, the comfort and features are phenomenal.

I recently picked up an '05 A6 as a winter car. My first Audi sedan after 6 BMWs. The interior quality and features are really nice. The thing is roomy, and even gets decent gas mileage (3.2 version).

Considering the improvements coming soon in the 997, maybe you should buy the S8 now, and pick up an updated 997 later...

As you can see it really boils down to what type of car you want (assuming you don't get both). The sedan is going to be a much different car. Sounds like you really wnat both. If so, find a way to work it out.

If you do it then you will be back to a Porsche before too long. I've traded out of a Porsche many times and always came back before too long.

How about put the 911 in a climate controled storage facility w/ 24 hour access. That way you can switch the cars when you want with out the costly garage investment. They're all over the place in florida.

What about the Maserati Quatroporte- if you are going to trade in the 997 in get something interesting. It is a looker- having said that reliability may be the biggest hiccup vs the Audi....

Hey, if $ is not an issue...get a new place with two garages and keep them both! Good way to start a new year!
