Get the S8 for now. Build some more garages and pick up a used 997 GT3 in a year or two.

Seems your asking for help in making a decision to purchase a $100K car, seems a therapist would help you more than our opinions , geez what if you had to make a real life decision, I just think its funny , Im getting ready for a new years party early

Aerosmith, Only you can answer that question. Just think about it a little as these are two very different cars. Both are nice in their own way and for different reasons. It's not the end of the world to be without a Porsche, you can always buy another. I just wish you would have posted this before I ordered my car, I probably would have bought yours. Good luck in whatever you do.

My friend has a 2007 S8 and it is an awesome car. Absolutely incredible ride, handling, power, looks......it really is great! It's automatic tranny actually blips the throttle on downshifts.

However, it's no sports car (just a great sport sedan). It is an entirely different experience from driving a 997.

Would I like to have both....absolutely. However, the experience of driving one will not replace the experience of the other.

Good luck.

Buy lift for garage.
Install lift.
Buy S8
Park 911 on lift.
Raise lift.
Park S8 under 911.

the real question is do you do more highway driving or spirited twisty driving? no question the S8 will be better for highway and it is no doubt a head turner. the A8 is a head turner and the S8 can only be more so.

for me though i'd miss the 6 speed. think long and hard about the tranny.

You better really LOVE those "adults" who are going to occupy the back seat in order to even consider trading the 997 for the S8, and I don't even have a 911. The occupants in my back seats are my kids and they are the high light of my life, but once they grow up and move out, I'm going to forget about "back seats" forever.

I should add that I went out to dinner a few days ago with 2 adults in the rear of my 997s. my wife at 5'6" said she was reasonably comfortable for the 20 min drive and the other rear passenger - 5'2" female said she was very comfortable but may have been being polite.

Stupid 80 year old historic bulidings....sheesh. Now if my office above the garage wasn't so comfy I'd tear it down.

Ultimately my long term solution here is a real estate upgrade. You're right about that. But they will still be making 911s then I hope.
