Default Must have options for resale?

So, I've been configuring a 997S and despite my lack of interest in the Sport Chrono, I have a feeling it's a "must have" item when it comes to future resale. I plan to keep the car a very long time and want to build it for myself, but when 9 out of 10 cars I see out there have SC, I have to believe I better have it for later.

Same thing for Bose - I can see it now...
Prospect: "Sounds great, does it have SC and Bose?"
Ron: "Well, no and let me explain why *click*... hello?... hello?..."

So, if you all agree, I think this is how I'd configure:
Cobalt
Instruments in black
Sport heated seats
SC
Bose
Fire extinguisher
Black mats

I got floor mats and the supple leather because it costs more and I thought it would be better quality and good for resale. I am not a cheap person but they are all the options I wanted. I think others will purchase on the color and condition as much as options. I did not care as to the color because I got white and silver would have been a better choice if I were just into resale. Get what you want and to hell with resale.

I agree with your list. I bought new, but considered used. SC was a necessity. Sport seats were a "nice to have." Cobalt is an amazing color.

Can I assume you are looking for an "S"?

Sport Chrono is more than a stop watch! The package also contains your memory seats and various other memory settings too. To me sport chrono is a must.

With this car almost past it's mid-life I'd be looking for a pristene used one. Let someone else take a $15K hit(or whatever it is). Not unless you have to have a new one. Yes, you are right about adding the goodies as someone will choose another car that has them over yours if it doesn't.

Almost past its midlife? What have you been smoking?

Why are you guys obcessed with resale features? Equipping it for the next guy?

Default I agree with Dan buy the car for yourself

As for options, when you resell the car they are worth a lot less then when you buy them new.

Get the car you want, personally I like the SC package (except for the wart) but I don't even notice the wart anymore.

There are those of the opinion that SC will hurt resale value:

Talk to the used car managers, and they will tell you:

Litronics and Sport Chrono are "deducts" from the value of the car if you don't have them.

I'd guesstimate roughly 50% of 997's have SC, which does not make it a "must have" option in my book.

Hey, Ron ...

I seldom ... if ever... configure a car "for resale". I usually lease vehicles for 24-48 months and couldn't care less what the fella/gal wants who buys it after I'm done.

All my cars will have very low miles, be well cared for, not smoked in, few road 'nicks', serviced well, yada, yada. Who ever buys my cars will get a great car. Many have contacted me to say so.

I've seen many folks buy cars that I would not. I did not like the model, the color, options, etc. That's why there are so many out there. There's a cover for every pot. Heck, I even have a girl friend!!

My advice is to configure the car the way YOU want. Then drive it like ya stole it. Let the dealer worry about resale. I doubt if my green 977 will sell for much less than someone's black, red or silver car. A grand here or there is not much in the whole scheme o'things. Heck, with all the black, red and silver cars out there, maybe my green car will be worth more as it'll be sorta 'rare'? Who knows, eh.

If you are serious about resale, get navigation. The first question asked by almost all potential buyers for the last three cars I sold was, "Does it have nav?" When the answer was "no", I'd say 70% hung up. I don't see why it's so great...I finally got nav on a new Mercedes a couple months ago...have used it twice and probably won't again...but it appears to be a priority for most.

But if you are REALLY serious about resale, you wouldn't get blue...

Excellent points, really. I want blue for me, but didn't think about that for resale issues. I don't want SC or Bose really, just looking at those as "investments". Bose I may enjoy while it's in the car, so that's an investment I won't mind making.

The problem is I'm not sure if this car will stay with me or if it will be replaced by something else, perhaps a 997 GT3 down the line when they remove the mandated sunroof. If I were to keep the car long-term, I'd get what I want and not worry about it.

I agree about the NAV. Though most people don't use it much it seems that it is a plus when trying to sell a car.
