Since I pretty much just drive my cars back and forth to work each day .... mostly ... NAV is not very needed for me. But, I do like looking at the picture of my car moving along the road, eh.

My last 3 cars have had NAV. Some systems are better than others. But, I think I'll buy it from now on. But, not for resale ... just cuz I like looking at it. I usually know where I am (mostly...), and where I'm going.

I just wish these systems were EZr to use. I'd like to say .... "Go to J.D. Harding's restaurant" ... and see it drawn out. If I'm going to some place I'm unfamiliar, I use MapQuest. Print it out and watch my car on the NAV following the directions on my printed out MapQuest.

Having purchased a 2005 997 in July without SC, it was not a "must have" for me.

This is my 6th 911 over the past 14 years (including a 73 911 RS replica and three 964 Turbos), I've raced in PCA and vintage for 13 seasons, and think I know a good handling car when I drive one.

This is one. I really think the 997, even bone stock, is a brilliant car. The Bose and the Litronics are pretty nice, but I didn't have to pay list for them and the car would be virtually the same without them.

Suit yourself on the car's options.

Looking for a 997, the only MUST have is heated seats, the other are nice.
There is one NOT HAVE and that is the Rod Antenna mounted on the roof.
WHY does anyone need better AM radio reception, when the content of AM is crapola

Well, a few follow-up comments:

Sport Chrono - does nothing I want. Can take the $920 and keep it invested or spend the same money for a TraqMate set-up for real data acquisition. Resale not so much an issue if you put the $920 at just 10% for 3 to 5 years... almost $1500. The idea of having the wart for 3-5 years and not using any of the features just doesn't sit right.

Bose - OEM stereo is fine and "lighter" in weight. Calculate out $1390 over 3-5 years at 10%. $2200 after 5 is that much less I could resell for without Bose.

Now I'm debating the Sport Shifter - reasonable especially considering it's oem... Drove both and liked both - Sport was obviously shorter throws, but a bit notchier... Pros and Cons...

I don't think it is available from the Factory any longer!

It's on the order list and what I understand is either Sport Shift or PSE can be fit at the dealer for the same price as the factory price. So where they put it on appears to be inconsequential.

Heated seats are a must in any climate region, it is inexplicable why they are not standard. The Bose sound is a definite plus. Bi-zenon headlights in a non-S are necessary, another why aren't they stock. Sport Chrono is of little value, as far as I am concerned. Navigation can be retrofitted or use aftermarket. The sport shifter can be retofitted.

If I were buying a used Carerra, I would not consider a non-S. Automatic transmission is out. Full leather is another must have. Objectionable colors(listed or special) include white, red, yellow, beige, lime green, orange, maroon, bronze and possibly others.

buy the car you want. Do not worry about resale. There will be people that want what ever you order. If I was looking for a used Porsche I would not want the Fugly wart on the dash but others would. The dealer in Seattle told me that any blue with grey interior is the hardest to move.
