What are the differences between the Tiptronic and the Tiptronic S anyways??
You must be kidding. Where did you get that erroneous information? The standard trani outsells the tip by almost 10 to one.

I think you guys are both way off...I believe it's close to 50/50 automatic/manual.

Tiptronic vs. Tiptronic S? There's only one Tiptronic available for each model. I believe they were calling it 'S' at some point to indicate a newer version, but they're all just automatics.

I discovered today that my tip only has 5 forward gears.

Is this normal?

Can those of you with a tip confirm that you only have 5 gears?

I bought this car under the assumption that it was a real race car and I'm shocked that it only has 5 forward gears.

Can a 6th gear be retrofitted?

Yes and 30% corresponds almost exactly the the percentage of Americans who are physically handicapped in some way and thus require a tip.

If medical science makes substantial strides in that area we can reasonably expect to see the proportion of tiptronics sold go way down.

No, I'm not kidding. It's a 60/40 in favor of the Tiptronic at least.

From American Auto Press:

"...the Porsche-developed slushbox is the well-known torque-converter equipped Tiptronic transmission. Outselling the manual by quite a margin, this automatic gearbox was one of the first manual-shifted automatics on the market..."

Cayenne outsells all sports models combined.

I think the Tiptronic S is actually improved. At least the one in the Turbo is. Big time brake torquing is what makes it faster than the manual (on the TT).

The Cayenne S solves the slow problem with the tip. There is no comparison. Totally different engines.

That's excluding the Cayenne since it does not come in a manual. Those numbers are for the Carrera. This is why there are so many manuals on the dealer lots and very few tips. This is also a big reason why you get a far better deal on a stick than a tip.

Another confirmed scientific fact is that in any population sample, only about 30% of the people are shown to be progressive and evolving. Rest 70% are the masses who do not mean much other than just adding dead mass to the intelligent elements.

ha ha !!!!!!!

An interesting thread about Tip Vs Manual on a 997 TT. Apparently the tip was designed to be faster.

any foced induction car should be faster in a automatic, in a stick shift car when you shift the throttle plate is closed as you shift (unless you shift without lifting) this casues boost to back up and it is dumped to prevent kick back to the turbo or supercharger impeller this casues a drop in boost that then has to build back up . An automatic can maintain full boost once it builds.

Well, apparently some of these listers are smoking crack, or something as bad. Why don't you pick up the phone and run that line (60/40 tip/std) by the dealer and see what they tell you. I don't think you'll post their response. In the meantime, I'll get the facts from the Porsche factory. Would you like to wager????????? I don't gamble, but I'll make an exception in your case.
