Buy a Rolex Sub (5513) from the year you wear born. The value will always be there..it will never go out of style. And when you tell people it is 40+ year old watch (looks new) and keeps perfect time, it seperates you from all the others. People think it is cool idea rather than throwing $4000 on your wrist. When I give it to my son, he will always remember it is as old as me.

blackdog.....VERY COOL idea. I never thought of that. How in the world do you find a watch like that without getting burned? BTW, growing up I lived in Great Falls. My 'hood was "Amberwood" off of rt7.

Many Tags are run by batteries and that's why they are so cheap compared to Panerai or Rolex. Automatic watches contain many gears and the true art of old watch making. Battery powered watches are just plain garbage no matter how pretty the face. Rarely do they reach collector status as their internals are largely plastic.

Certainly no offense meant. I have two Tags, both of which are battery operated. They are nice to look at, but most are junk on the inside and any jeweler worth his salt will tell you that. I have since bought Panerai, Rolex, Corum and others. They will appreciate in value as their movements are intricate and really beautiful. Before I collected and knew better, I bought the battery operated tags--overpriced for what you get. I like buying high quality items that will maintain their value or, appreciate.

I have the Rolex GMT Master. Love the watch and it cleans up really nice when serviced. I've had it ten years and it looks brand new after Rolex ran it through its service last month. Really nice piece. It's getting a little common place these days though.

Holy crap! What happened to your font size? Or is it just my computer?

Anyway, whatta ya mean the watch is getting a little common place these days? not's like there is a large demographic that can purchase on of these watches.

If I had to chose one sport model Rolex it would be the Seadweller. The largest they offer (thicker, same old 40mm though). With a Rolex, head on out for a night on the town and chances are you will see your exact same model once perhaps twice.

Now thats fine if you love the brand and model that much, but I prefer a route less taken.

Ive actually met the guy behind Kobold...strange fellow. Hene in Shadyside (Pittsburgh) is a dealer and he sometimes works behind the counter - cant beat that for knowledge though, buying off the guy who designed it. Love the bracelets on them, very sporty, good weight. I just have a hard time justifying the $$$ he charges personally. You can also read that as just too scared to take a chance on the investment in a little known brand...of course that could be a good thing down the road.
