Hummmm..., with 50 extra HP the Corvette is still the slower car.

Bottom line.....top dollar (or Deutch Mark) goes to top talent. In Germany it seems to be the automotive industry. In America, it's clearly the aerospace & defense industries, including the Shuttle, Space Station, etc.

In addition, the only reason we had Nuclear fission before Germany is because of German expats (Albert Einstein, Lisa Meitner, Hans Bethe, Felix Bloch, etc...), who for obvious reasons, wanted to see the US gain this technology before Germany.
Regarding spaceflight, the current shuttle mission has one German astronaut. Space telescopes, specifically the James Webb Space telescope, to replace the Hubble, have their optics manufactured by Zeiss... based in Germany.
Defense and aeronautics suffer today because of the Potsdam Conference, restricting Germanys defense policies. Lastly, the Predator (and other unmanned vehicles), laser guidance systems, etc, are largely developed in Israel, BUT manufactured by American multi-national corporations
I think the Germans are far superior Engineers than Americans.

Arguably, the Russian space project fell behind because of a terrible rocket accident in the 1960s where most of their German scientists perished. The western world found out about this post cold-war.

Albert Einstein was not German, but Swiss. He also became a citizen of America in the 40's. He just happened to be born in Germany. I visited Germany once. Does that automatically make me a better engineer?

you going to beat me up?
that may be possible for periods of time when led by a superior intellect but not through out history.
or it may come through a niche that other cultures don't pay as much attention to, but again this would not make them superior, only specialists.

Though saying German engineers are "far superior" is almost like saying American engineers are dumb, which isn't really very tactful or accurate.
