Default X51 impact on 0-60?

According to P's website, 997S is 4.6 0-60. I think they tend to be a little conservative.

Does anyone know what the equivalent time is for a 997S w/ X51? I have searched the site but can't seem to find an old thread with this info. Nor can I find it on the P website.

Thanks.

I would say that the 997S is around 4.3. I think the x51 would be the same or maybe a 4.2. I think x51 would stand out more in the 0-100 or 1/4mile.

Carrera S 0-60 4.6 sec
Carrera S X-51 (club coupe) 0-60 4.4 sec

(Porsche Numbers)

Your mileage may vary....

Yes, I've seen that number too and have always dismissed as a typo.

Why? I believe it, why would they make those figures up? What gain would they have?

None I suppose. It just seems rather odd that no other published sources support that number.

Believe me - I would love to think it was true.

If you read the test they specifically refer to these results (with shock and awe). They also dynoed the engine to verify it was within spec. Just one fast **** that probably needed a clutch after the runs were over. I know mine will do this

I have absolutely no doubt that one could get a 4.1 - 4.2 out of a C4S - but you'd need a new clutch in fairly quick order... Porsche is very conservative in their numbers, but I don't think that they are launching at 5000 RPM, either.

Wheel hop is bad, bad, bad... and I'm sure that R&T's car was hopping like a bunny.

Now, if Sport Chrono actually had an autostart / autostop function, I could verify what the seat of my pants is telling me. Maybe I need my #2 kid in the car with a stopwatch? <g>

i wish sports chrono has auto stop/start - that would be super cool

i dont want to spend $200 on a gtech just to do a few 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs...after a few days i probbaly would never use it again

I don't think every car will have the exact same HP. The Porsche figures are most likely a worst case (conservative) view...so expect some cars to have higher HP, maybe R&T got one for their test?

Re wheel hop: Actually in the article they noted that there was NO wheel hop as had been seen on other occasions w this car. This leads me to believe that the fast times were a function of the launch surface which by chance allowed sufficient wheel spin to prevent tramping. Tramping is caused in part by too much traction and too little torque to cleanly break the wheels loose and keep the engine at optimum revs for launch. These times I believe are what a fast car and experienced driver can accomplish on the right surface on the right day.

Thanks for the edification, gpjli2 - I didn't read the original article.

So, R&T must have had the stars aligned that day, eh?

1.) Excellent pilot,
2.) Perfect road surface,
3.) Car's output at the high end of the build range.

It's still amazing - 3.9! These cars never cease to blow me away... <g>
