Stereos, wheels, interior, chips mufflers, suspensions, chargers, on and on and on...
This board is the only one that has this "Porsche holier than thou" stigma....to me its utter BS.
tkae for instance the headers on a 997S they are complete garbage. The headers on a non S car are even far better. If you look at a S header the flow path is a straight restrictive reverse "Y". the worst shape for gasses to evacuate.

An FYI about the exhaust manifolds:
Compared to the standard manifold of the 3.6 litre engine, the new
high-performance manifold of the 3.8 litre engine permits better mixing and hence better preconditioning of the raw emissions before they are passed on to the catalytic converter.
Form follows function.
Aftermarket mfg do not concern themselves with the big total picture...and real engineering R&D is slim to none.
Me I'm quite happy with my '05 997S logging 24,000 miles taking excursions across the country on every type of road you could imagine, in all weather conditions, as well as flogging it to extremes on the track (3 sets of tires allready). The seating is the "best" I've experienced producing no body fatigue after 8-10hr stints of up to 900mi in a day and with <2qt of oil consumed, and it keeps running like a Swiss watch.
I will say that PAG has developed one great car!
Your individualization is for you alone, but in a group of Porsche owners some of what you do is not inovative nor cool to generate oohs or ahhs but have others muttering WTF and scratching their heads.

I've noticed people on this forum very quickly takes things personal. That is not the case on other forums such as PPBB or the 996 forum. Some people here appear to be a bit on the edge and take any remark as criticism of their car. Furthermore, there is a lot of hesitation with mods and DYI work. I think this has to do with the 997 being so new. As it (and this forum) get older, more knowledge and experiences will be shared and hopefully things will become a bit more mellow. On the plus side: what amazes me sometimes is the knowledge of some posters on non-Porsche topics (Finance, audio, matehmatics, even rocket science). There are some very bright and very experienced specialist in certain areas hanging out here.

I gave two laser sharp examples even after saying what a fine car Porsche is. There was nothing broad about my commentary it was very specific to two items the headers and the interior scheme.
Please be accurate about your accusations. Also the context of what I was saying was to illustrate how Porsche does not get everything necessarily right, although they produce a fine car. When I say you have a chip this is what I mean, you twisted what I said to make your point that you enjoy your Porsche immensly as do I. If my saying that Porsche doesnt make the best header "bristles" the community, then what can I say...you and your community are possibly far too easily bristled.
By the way, I can pull up tens of articles about the headers to counteract Porsches marketting but I wont even go there if you think Porsche headers are perfection.
Any, and I mean ANY car manufacturer is open to both praise and criticism. Dont be a cow, blindly heading down the line to slaughter...Open dialogue leads to solution. I'm not trying to **** on your Porsche parade, Jonesie. How can you say my points have no merit? WOW!
Furthermore, if I felt the need for the accolades of this particular community, beleive me I would keep my ideas private. I dont need, or am looking for a heroic reception based on this crowd. I post and let those who like, like and those who dont cringe...I dont do what I do to get the warm and fuzzies from this crowd. If thats what I was after I would have bought a gray/gray S with gray wheels and wrote a nervous post about what brand of tire dressing to put on my tires as to not give too much shine....then I would have been one of the boys!
Another example is....I cant for the life of me understand why you guys think I went over the top on my interior. Not that I really care if you like it but Its PORSCHE that does red interiors with red steering wheels, carpets, seats, dashes, consoles, door panels visors, glove boxes and shift *****...you conservatives accuse me of going overboard adding a few subtle touches of red to accent my seating? this is the, should I say...yea I'll say it...hypocracy that i see on here from a handful of guys. you dont have to like what I do but dont be hypocritical enough to pretend to like what porsche does because they do it. I happen to like the way BMW does it and thought long and hard about how to acheive a more tasteful look.
By the way have I said I loved my Porsche recently?
I would agree with you on one particular point Jones, I would say PAG has produced one great car too.

I am curious as you quoted that statement from Porsche literature?
Also while on the point, manufacturers that do not go global can not live nowadays. It is not something special that Porsche manufactures cars for different country specific requirements, they all do these days, they have to.
I am always curious if I store and sell my **** in nice packaging under Porsche labels as a a car care product, would I be able to buy myself a Ferrari 599 GTB in a year. just joking

It did prompt a great post on design in which I actually learned something..
I for one an extremely glad he posted what he has on his aftermarket install because I for one am gonna rip out the premium bose and put something similar in mine... WHY? cause I can... not to impress anyone but myself (texas).
but to digress to out and out ugly remarks because you didn't happen to like the content of his opinion is at best 5 yr old mentally... I have heard more mature comments emanating from my preschooler than from some of these posts.
IF you don't like what the man has to say (and have NO REAL information to debate with other than my **** is better than yours or I don't like your **** cause its crooked) then use your damned mouse button and move the hell to another post.
Some of you are prime examples that money can't erase ignorance... or give you class... but certainly can enlarge the size of the ***.
I love my porsche --- am not arrogant enough to think they walk on water --- not stupid enough to think that they wouldn't trade some features for cost variables when it comes to anything that doesn't change the base engineering of the car (ie: everything cosmetic on the car) They are a BUSINESS.
They built a great damned car (mechanical wise) but have fallen far short on the rest of the design (they are getting better) but may not ever get it right and who gives a crap (we didn't buy the damned cars for the stereo or the trunk space)... MOST of us bought it cause ITS A PORSCHE and we have always wanted to own this fine piece of german engineering.

I think the point is there is a way to discuss improvements on your car without dumping on the brand, insulting those who might like their exhausts, or appearing pompous. Not all of us give a rats **** about sound systems in a performance car...most enthusiasts are more interested in go-fast mods than in flashy customizations.

Interesting post .
Personally, when I want to listen to good music,
I do it from my easy chair at home, with a scotch in my hand.
When driving, I try to pay attention ( both visually AND audibly )
to what is going on around me .
And I can't do that if I am recording CD's or scroll thru 30 GB of pre recorded
dribble on an I-Pod while yapping on the phone with Gigawatts of
noise blasting in my ears.
And when going 70 mph , instead of playing with the menu on my touch screen ,
I KEEP MY EYES ON THE F...%.@# ROAD .
