Any thought on the best brand of clear Bra ?? My dealer is suggesting Armor Glove. Do any of you have this product? Is it any good? Which is the best ?

Have you done a search using "clear bra" as your key word? ... You'll get the answers you seek, including the one about Armor Glove.

Instead of asking "what brand" is the best, you should be asking "who" is the best. As I've experienced myself, the look of the clear bra is directly related to the skill of the installer. My installer claimed to use the best 3m film, but the pre-cut kit he put on didn't look good at all. There were very noticeable lines and wrinkles on the bra, which he claimed was normal because the 997's bumpers are difficult. I've seen some of Premier's installs, and it was so clean that you couldn't even see it,...not even the seams. Too bad they are in Cali. Your best bet would be to ask for reputation amongst your Pcar peers. But if you are in California, contact Sam at sam@premiermobilegroup.com. I spoke to him a few weeks ago, and he seems like a very down to earth guy. Plus their reputation amongst exotic car guys are impeccable.

The bottom line is not only do you need a quality installer but you need a quality film as well. The best installers with the best film available will give you the best results - obviously. If a quality installer can produce decent results with a mediocre film, he'll do an even better job with a better film. Those facts are indisputable.

I am an aviation technician and see this Aerospace protective coating on many of the 727s, 737s, 747s, and 757s. It looks darn good when it is first put on, however, it begins to turn into this dullish gray look that is pretty visible. For those who do quite a bit of traveling, next time, just take a look at the noses of the planes you are boarding and you will spot it immediately from several hundred feet.

I talk to the local 3m aerospace guys quite a bit when they come in to replace the protective coating and they tell me that if it stays on for too long there will definitely be 2 toning if it's ever removed because the aerospace coating blocks off most ultraviolet rays. How true it is? Not sure, but they replace it quite often for this reason and with complaints about how it turns color so soon. Just take a look at Southwest's planes and you will see what I'm talking about.

In the end, it's up to you to decide whether this stuff is worth it over rock chips. For me, it is worth it, but see this aerospace film every day and believe it to be more hype than anything else.

I don't believe it's the same film. The 3M Aerospace film that we speak of is specifically for automotive use, and not for aircraft use. It may have been developed by the same division of 3M, hence its name. But the film for automotive use comes in long flat rolls. It would be very difficult to use this same film on the nosecone of an aircraft with its high degree of curvature, leaving behind many wrinkled folds in the process. The film for aircraft would have to be preformed in some fashion or applied with intense heat to get the film soft enough to melt and stretch and conform to the conical surface, thus suggesting a different type of film altogether.

Besides, optical clarity, which is of utmost importance for automotive use (and this film is the leader in this category), would seem of little value for aircraft, where the protection factor would be most important, and visibility of the film the least important quality of all, in my opinion.

Thanks for your views. I checked other threads too and it seems the Armor Glove in Greenwich CT (my home town) are a good bet if I decide to get a clear bra installed. If they have any spare film maybe I'll ask Pamela if she wants a fitting :-)

I'd go with Armorglove as they have a newer film that is more clear than others. They also have different roll sizes as well.

My C2S will be arriving sometime in late April or May at Danbury Porsche and Armorglove will arrive to do the work.

According to the local vendor, who is the only company in the area to use this coating, it is the same thing. It was traditionally used for aircrafts and now it is becoming a trend to be used on cars (for the past couple years). Apparently, there are two sides to 3m and there are plenty of disputes between the 2 divisions because one is crossing over to the other. A few technicians here had it put onto their cars and it looks great initially (even on black), but one of them park his car outside everyday and his changed color in a few months. Just the same way it did on the noses of the aircrafts. The others who had it done and didn't see this result almost always park it in the shade. When my colleague talked to them several weeks ago, they told him to avoid parking it in the sun because it is the ultraviolet rays that actually causes the "fading". For our group, we thought this was more marketing than true quality. Now, the two others who had it done are worried about parking their cars in direct sunlight becuase of it. I personally think it's not worth it for such hassle. I have it on my AG997, but didn't feel the price for the 3m aerospace film justified the hassle, which was why I only had the bumper done with a local Avery company.
