Default Any recommend AGAINST putting on protective film (Venture)

I'm about to take the plunge and do most of the front-end (front, full hood, bumpers). I've on seen good things on the forum, but wanted to check to see if any felt that one should NOT do this.

no fade since there is NO protection from UV. Paint will fade the same to the naked eye. Contact the guys at Premier (think they are a site sponsor and do tours x-country).

3M Aerospace film is far superior to Venture. It's a little more expensive, but if you're very particular, like me, it's well worth the premium.

Tell us where you live and we can direct you to the best installers in your area.

When I took off the right rear fenderguard on the 993, there was no discernable difference in the color under the film and the surrounding areas. The car had been in Arizona for several years before I bought it.

OCBEN,

I'll take you up on your offer! The last 3M film I used on my Lexus SC430 was done my Armorglove in Greenwich, but it was not the Aerospace version. I'm looking for the Aerospace version prior to production and delivery.

Thanks,

Deanski

I didn't bother and the front condition is good after 8K+ miles. I don't do a lot of freeway driving. I've got it on my other sports car and your eye is drawn to the spots where rocks have hit and damaged the aero space film. It is better than touching up all the time on that car.

IMO if you don't do a lot of daily freeway driving you can easily get away without it.

I saw it on a black CGT at the dealer......looked horrible, I would never put it on a dark car, rather have the rock chips.

Highly recommended. I had a black 997 for 10 months and the front looked terrible without film. I have it on my Club Coupe.

I think the all of the films looks like crap personally. I'd rather have rock chips, and for the cost of the installation you can almost afford to repaint the hood a few years down the road.

If you do it, I do recommend you get it wrapped along existing seams so you don't see the ugly line across the hood.

OCBen
The 3M aerospace film you refer to...is it this product?
http://www.clearmask.com/aerogard.htm

I'm looking to install film over the illuminated stainless steel door sills I just purchased. My film criteria is thin, clear & minimal orange peel look.....Do you think aero film is the best bet....How does it differ from the original 3M paint protection film?

You must have hard water. I've had Armorglove on my SC430 for years and never got any water spotting. You need to get a reverse osmosis system or use other meathods to reduce the mineral content in the water.

To remove waterspots try a distilled clear vinegar and distilled water 5:1 and wipe off. Or try Isopropyl Alcohol and distilled water to dissolve the alkaline-based mineral water deposits. If they feel as they etched into the film, you'll have to replace the film. Polishing paint film takes the correct polishes and pads and is difficult to resolve without damage as it's so thin as opposed to rear window plastic used for convertibles. Possible to use Klasse AIO with a finish pad by hand over an area not visible to see how much it can be stressed before it marks up.

Deanski
