Over-Inflating Tires for the Winter Nap
Can someone tell me if it is 'safe' to inflate the tires to 50 or higher PSI for the winter nap? This may sound crazy...but with these low profile tires, is there a danger of poping or exploding the tire?
This is what I should do, right, to prevent flat spots if I do not plan on winter driving? Is 50 PSI the correct pressure? The normal pressures are 33 and 39. 33 to 50 is quite a jump.
Thanks.

Thanks MJones & Marc. It's just been a loooong week and I was too lazy. I deserved that - you are right. 58 PSI is a whole lot of air, however. Whether I RTFM or not, I will be a bit anxious to fill'em up that much.

Hey, they ship the cars over from Germany with that amount of air in the tires, it's OK
How do I know?
I had to let alot of German air out fo my tires after I stripped off the shipping plastic.
I walked my car off the truck and thru PDI.

Adam, are you serious? ... Are you really gonna put your car in hibernation for the long winter? ... I pity you guys who do that. I'm so glad I don't live in Ohio anymore, and I don't think I'll ever move back, even if homes cost a mere fraction of what they do here in Southern Cal. Everythiing has a price I suppose.

well, not exactly hibernation. I'll take her out on the clear cold days. But I just got a new Infiniti QX56 so I am diggin that for this winter. I love the 997S but its the other idiots on the road during the winter...and the salt spray and all that crap. To me it aint worth it. I would need to buy winter tires and rims, risk the other idiots, etc. I have a new truck so I intend to drive it!!! I cant wait till the Monday storm. And, there is a storm proged for next thurs-fri also!!! Bring it on! Time to ski!!!!

Blarg! I will not drive the 911 after they salt our roads till the first good rain comes to wash it off... And the car isn't even broken in yet...
Going take her out for a ride on Saturday (perhaps just cross the bridge for lunch on the Eastern Shore) just to put some miles on her, then Sunday it's a wash (even if it's raining outside) and then wax in the garage. Any suggested routes for my Saturday ride?
Monday I get to try out the Snow Tires on the Cayenne so that could be a bright spot...
