Take a look at www.pca.org/sfl/. Our club is known for one of the best DE events in the nation. There is a good drivers ed section. It may be best not to read much before because you might not get the right message. I think books do the most good about the time you become a solo driver. #1 is to have fun safely. Go relax and enjoy.

Books only do so much. The real learning is on the track. Just make sure to take it slow. Don't EVER feel ashamed for being in the beginner group in a p-car. Everybody has to start somewhere. And sooner or later they'll be giving you the point. ;-)

Have fun!

Another thing......the best learning is on the track WITH an instructor. And yes, there are instructor's all ALL levels. I have made my way up the ranks from student to beginner to intermediate to advanced now and STILL enlist the services of an instructor. You can NEVER learn enough and instructors are your most valuable resources (most of the time).

Vic Elford's book is pretty good. The PCA DE instructors are generally pretty good, but there are more than a few only into it for the free track time. The VERY BEST instruction is at the Porsche Driving Experience, you get personal instruction from professional / factory race drivers, you just can't come close with part time racers as good as they may be. It's expensive, but well worth it.

Secrets of the Solo Racer by Henry Watts:

Practical, informative and written by a very competent driver and true Porsche addict, who lives this stuff. It's the bible for Driver Education here on the West Coast and used by many PCA clubs. I can't think of a better place to start!

Ditto what Doug said, the PDE is best. Instructors are hit or miss, I've had great ones and lame ones, about 50-50. I think the lead-follow is best.
