Doesn't the manual tell you to use the aircon occasionally to keep parts lubricated. If you don't you will find one day that it won't blow cold air - tell me how I know (You don't often need aircon over here).

Uh.. Harry, sorry, but I think all seriousness in this thread went out the window several pages ago on this side of the pond.

But you are absolutely correct. The A/C compressor needs to be run occasionally to keep the parts lubricated. I believe the refrigerant supplies the lubricant for the system and if you don't run it occasionally components can dry out and seals will fail to seal.

Out of all seriousness, rumor has it that "lack of use"/"seldom use" is also bad for other important seals like the infamous RMS.

5 to 6k a year is good isn't it? It's not my daily driver. I've heard the horror stories about RMS problems. But I believe if I put on 5 to 6k a year she should be fine. Remember guys, I just got her July 8th with 30 miles on her, she has 640 miles on her now. Still in the break in period.

I've only had my car 53 days and have only logged 855 miles on her. Heck, I think I'm logging more posts here than miles on the car, talk about sick! But at this rate I should have 5888 miles on her after 365 days.

Yeah TD, I guess considering the gutter this thread has been in, the saying "Use it or Lose it" can take on another meaning.

5-6k is fine but also remember what Porsche says about how to drive it (at least in 993 manual & older cars): Every time you drive your car you should take it up to full speed...

Maybe that's not possible here since we don't have autobahns but least drive it hard enough so that you'll take revs to, or close to redline at least once every time you drive it.

Yes I XLR8, Flying Finn explained exactly what I meant. If I were you, I would not give the RMS issue a second thought. Honestly, it really isn't worth worrying about. You most likely will not have any problem, and even if you do it is really no big deal. I was just pointing out that sometimes people think they are doing their cars a favor by babying them, when in reality their cars want to be driven. This is true with the engines, seals, brakes, etc . . .
